Is it dual fuel or straight LPG? Have you checked your timing, lead set in good nick, right heat range spark plug and are your mixtures correct? Do you have any vacuum (air) leaks from your manifold gasket or anywhere else?

I have seen them where they usually blow the air box apart, But I would be asking why it is backfiring rather than trying to rectify the after affects. What colour are your spark plugs electrode/tip? It may gie an indication of burning lean.

Hi, This is the mother of all long shots but is your muffler/exhaust system OK? Years ago my wife had a Toyota Seca that was doing exactly the same thing and it turned out to be a collapsed muffler. Like I said it's a long shot... :)

Did you convert the AU engine back to distributor rather than the coil pack setup, and don't AU haeds have a sensor at the back of them unlike the EB engines, That is on the 6 cylinders anyway, or are you running a 5 litre?
