hey dudes I have just put a 308 back in my hx statesman
long story short I brought a hx statesman with a 202/tri drive line
but Am going back to what it came out with (for power its pritty slow with the six) anyway back too the story got a 308/th400 put it in but blow a heap of gaskets now need to do a full rebuild to be on the safe side
my Qs is what rear main seal do I need the rope or rubber
the eng # 11QT97***** and the date code is 20b8 so I think its around
20-2-78 if Iam right please tell me thanx dudes

The crank should have knurling where the seal sits if its a rope seal.

If there are 5 digits after the 97 itll be a rope rear main.

I have an VC Brock with its original motor still and had all sorts of problems with the rope rear main, so my mechanic mate fitted a rubber rear main from a Buick and shes all sweet now.

Didnt have to machine or change anything.
