Why do all the motoring writers drool over European cars?
European shape, comfort, design etc, when for practical purposes most of them are crap in Australian conditions.
The paint fades and cracks, the bodies fall apart, the wiring disintegrates, and theres so much glass you can get sunstroke driving to the beach.
Fiat, Renault, Skoda, Alfa, Peugot, VW, BMW, Audi, Volvo, they are all the same, they go fast for a while then die of one cause or another.
Parts are made of unobtanium and priced accordingly, when you can get them, and you grow a long white beard (even the ladies) waiting for service and a longer one saving the shekels to pay for servicing.
They have been introduced so many times to the Australian markets last for a few years and then get withdrawn because Aussie buyers are not the suckers they thought we were, and then a few years later Fiat or Renault or whatever return to the Aussie market and make like they are doing us yokels a big favour by allowing us to buy their last year's leftovers.
look for a ****load of them coming over in the near future when the worldwide recession sets in, there are tens of thousands of cars sitting on airports around Europe looking for a home. Fortunately they are mostly left hand drive so we wont see most of them.
Yes Australia has turned out some crap cars but how many 20 year old Alfas, BMWs, Mercs, or fiats do you see?
Even the Japs turn out some more robust cars.

The paint system changed with the VS , yes there are some neglected examples around but the paint fairs better than earlier model commodores. My VT and VS statesman still have great paint jobs .

One of my colleagues has just sold her 1992 BMW 318i for $5,300 and another colleague who has owned nothing but Euro cars (mainly old Pugs) was saying how cheap that was for such a nice car. I responded that you would get nowhere near that much for a 1992

I doubt anyone would complain if a lambo or ferrari was dumped in their driveway, along with plenty of other "Euro-Trash". Horses for courses, theres good n bad in all makes

So if you see a Euro advertised with minor repair needed for rego you now know what your getting yourself into.

Not everyone lives in the city and there are a lot off corrugated and bad roads in Australia and imported cars arent tested on corrugation or designed for it.
Only Australia and Africa have corrugated roads.
And europe does not have the dust we have her
