So, 2 weeks after putting shaft mount rockers in my 202 head, ive been given what i think is a 179 head. Closed chamber, adjustable rockers. P/N: 7420105?

It's had the YT style mods of mild porting, sloping of the material around the valve stems (where it was previously quite blunt, now it slopes right back to the stem) and removal of the casting around the pushrod in the intakes, replaced by a hollow bolt.

If this is the case, it's definitely better than my home-ported 202 head.

Trouble is the rockers, can i remove the studs and tap threads in there? Or even modify the studs to lock the shaft-mount rockers down?

Cheers.

wouldnt be 179 if its closed chamber, probably a 149 and you have misread the 9 as a 5

Just use the early rockers and pushrods. Remember though that youll probably have to regraph the dizzy and run 98 or 100 octane fuel with a small chamber head on a 202. Will wake it up good though.

I did indeed, its a 9, not a 5. Hadnt even wiped it down before. And, nobody hazed me for saying pushrods in the intakes! Haha. You know i meant head bolts.

So, theres barely clearance for the pushrods, but that can be drilled. I already use 98 and diz

You can get the studs pulled out and get SBC screw in studs added, but you need to mill the posts down and then have them drilled and tapped. If its a YT head the studs may also have been pinned by drillig and roll pins inserted.
