I have just finished the rebuild of my HT GTS and now I'm having problems starting it. Its a SBC 350 with a HEI dizzy and Quadrajet carb. The dizzy and carb are new. I have fuel and i have spark. I have triple checked the timing (manually). There is fuel in the carby and you can see it squirting when pressing on the accelerator. I have a full 12 volts to the HEI and there is a spark. I have gapped the plugs at 1mm. The spark is on the border line of orange to blue ( i would have thought it be more blue). The only way to get it to start is to put fuel down the carby. This will then start the engine then i have to pump the carby to keep it alive. I had it running th other night but the next morning it wouldn't start. I should add the fuel in the tank is 3 years old. Any thoughts!!

Sounds like dodgy old fuel has clogged jets. If it runs when you pump throttle, means that this is the only fuel it is getting. Or idle is set so low that it dies until you give it more air.

it wants to kick over. i have it running for about 30 sec last might and then the carby just spluttered with fuel and it stopped running. I can only put it down to the fuel being old because every time i put fuel down the carby its starts and runs for abo

Got it started. Charged the battery overnight, hooked up a wire directly to the battery from the HEI, kicked it over a few times and she started and after a minute ran smooth as. Now i have to fix the holes in the radiator and adjust the pwr steering. Loo
