Hey guys i own a 6/71 hq gts coupe and i want to restore the console inserts and dash fascia but not sure if it should have the black grain or silver chrome grain can anyone help????

Hi Warren can I have a little clarity on the dash finish please. You see Ive owned plenty of these GTS dashes over 20+ years and 1 NOS fascia. Ive seen 2 other NOS fascias and plenty in cars etc but never factory silver one. A 71 parts book has the p/n as

yes this confuses me as well.... which might not sound surprising to some.... anyway...

P.s there was no centre console in the car when i bought it as he fitted underdash A/C dammit...

so i cant tell you what colour the console lid was...

The whole HQ GTS dash fascia thing has been going for some time. In 2000 I spent some time after the Moanro nationals at a friends place who had a GTS fascia which we looked st closely. We also asked some people from GM-H on what they knew.

I once owned a 72 HQ 81837 which had its original facia in it although it was buggered it was the black finish. Also about 20 years ago a friend was selling his HQ SS that was totally original and had a black facia.

The original HQ sales brochure has a shot of a 10Z Monaro interior and the facia is black with green hue. This same brochure went through changes over the years and this shot changed when 4 door Monaros were released to a well optioned 30Y interior also w

I have heard of these supposed "Silver Fish Scale " dashes , and people selling overlays and now repro Dash Fascias but never actually seen a genuine in real life . The only time i have seen the silver finish is where the smoky tint has worn off and the s

Okay so if they didnt make a Silver Facia is it the same for the console then? There are companies selling "silver Fish Scale" dash parts, are they wrong? Was this employee friend of yours at Pagewood from the start of the HQ series? I am assuming he was.

pic is from 6/71 sales brochure, dash facia looks silver to me, from what Ive been told, the dash was changed due to safety concerns of glare from sun hitting the dash & blinding the driver.

You will find this car does have the coating. But light is catching the fish scale and is reflecting on it. Check this pic and you can see the difference between silver and the smoky tint on this sales brochure pic.

Because of the fact that the finish includes a tinted clear over the chrome/silver base, it probably depends on which angle your sight & the ambient lights hits the panel. Also photos not not reproduce any of this very accurately. I think the discussion i
