Was noticed the other day, bit of smoke from the tailpipe as i got on it (only around 4000 revs) in my worked 202. Its well bedded, six months old, running sweetly after early drama, most of which you heard about. Haha.

Yesterday, went down south, saw the oil light flicker as i rounded a bend. Still got pressure. Checked the oil at destination, not even showing on the dipstick. I only filled it a few weeks back. It's chewing oil.

No oil shows at all around the motor, but the gearbox is oily, and you can smell it.

Rear main seal or something?

But worse...she's started lightly blowing smoke under load, and not so lightly when i get off the throttle in gear.

This is all happened out of nowhere. I don't thrash the car, use good fuel, good oil.

Now, after driving the car with no proper PCV for a while, i fixed it by putting a t-piece in the manifold to feed booster and PCV. I just haven't had time for a proper drilling and tapping of the manifold.

Is it possible that it's drawing oil/heavy vapours into the cylinders? Plugs 5 and 6 are oily, and the vacuum port is right at one end of the manifold.

I'll probably put my spare stock motor in to pull this one down, but any thoughts before i get stuck in?

Um, heads dont get bored?

Ill pull the rocker cover tonight and try inspect that valve stem seals.

Did a comp test just for the sake of it, even though thats compression rings, not oil rings. Five cyliners spot on between 160-165, one cylinder with

Noel. Just a question, did you consider "High Plateau" or "High Place" or maybe "Mountain" for a username? Is your name really as posted in your profile? If so everybody welcome the father! If not, very clever username.

Wow, another topic ruined.

For anyone still interested in the REAL WORLD, i found number 5 to be a little down on comp. 145, eeked up to 150. Wet tested, straight to 160, in line with all the others.

But why all of a sudden, on a well bedded fresh m

It does not sound good. Maybe broken oil rings?

Yep, number 5 is showing obvious signs of oiling up, and general gunk and debris.

Some blow by maybe, will look when i dump this oil at the end of the week to check for contamination, ie fuel.

Now, of note... took footage of the tailpipe at idle, th

Try a brand new set of plugs and a new oil change, then get it run on a dyno under load for half an hour. Any faltering cylinder should show after that amount of time.

My 202 showed some signs of plug carbon after a while, only on 3 & 4 cylinder. I got a 7 heat range plug instead of 6 and it was much better.

Plugs are an inexpensive way to do some testing, and on a heavily modified engine 7 heat range is a better rec

Thats true, but this is a recent happening, they were all burning cleanly before.

But i will keep that in mind. The motors had a fair bit done but probably not enough to need a much hotter plug.
