Guys,

How difficult are these to put in? Do they need to be trimmed or massaged at all? What is the correct way to weld them in and seal them with sikaflex?

I have recently picked up a tonner cab to replace mine as mine is riddled with rust.

The cab I got is as clean as apart from some minimal tinworm in the passenger side footwell. The cowl is solid as as well. But the cowl is the later style to suit HJ - HZ front.

I have a new Rare Spares HQ / Tonner style cowl in the shed.

Should I unpick the cowl, and put the replacement one on, taking into account my guards, bonnet, nosecone etc are in pretty good nick. Or should I leave the cowl as is and put a later front on it?

Also, with the windscreen seals, is it possible to hook a battery back up to the wires in the seal to remove them? I have taken windscreens out before by running a piece of mig wire through the seal.

Cheers

Kev

Big job removing a cowl panel as their are 3 rows of spot welds and the spot welds are about an inch apart so thats a lot of drilling and welding. If your cowl is repairable it would be less of a head ache to repair it.Tip talcom powder stops the black win

Ive found 12V isnt enough for the seals - they work better with 24V ie 2 x batteries in series.
If the cowl is good leave it and use later panels (HJ-WB). Greg at Classicozwreck might do you a deal? I also wouldnt use the Rare Spares cowl if you must cha

Ok, the cowl on the new cab is rust free. Not bogged up to HZ shape either as far as I can tell (ran a magnet over it last night). I suspect the cab is a WB as it has metric threaded seat belt bolts - Byron, how can I definitively tell?

Windscreen washers on WB are in the cowl, not in the cowl grille. All WB have twin pivot points for clutch pedal (late HZ have this too). I cant think of much else different off the top of my head.

Where abouts are you and how good is the HQ front? Pretty sure I have a twin headlight front and a set of HZ GTS guards suited to a 1 tonner (theyve been slightly flared at some stage of life) in a shed somewhere. Im missing a bonnet for my HQ Monaro and

Im in Campbelltown (Sydney). The front is in good nick, rust free apart from some surface rust on the underside of the bonnet. Im fairly sure the bottoms of the guards are good, but will double check tonight.

I have removed the H O L D E N badges fro

Remembered another difference (I think). WB bucket seats seem to be the same spacing as HQ-HZ front to back for the holes in the floor for the seats, but side to side they are about 20mm narrower than HQ-HZ. I noticed this when bolting WB ute seats into m

Byron,

Pic below of the clutch pedal that is currently in the cab. Does this look right for a HZ cable setup? I thought there should be a tab / pad on the front edge of the pedal for the return spring to sit over?

Greg is correct. There is another hole above the one your pedal is in for the 6cyl clutch pedal on WB and late HZ cabs, so that cab is HX or HZ.
