I spent today preparing the floor on my pano for a little bit of welding and giving it all i good once over the the 3m wheel.
My first question has to do with the original floor paint used on the old holdens, it has a rough surface and after working on the floor and flex panel for a couple of hours i wondered if this covering was at all any danger to my health.
My second question has to do with rust proofing my floors, ive heard of tar deadner has anyone used this before? im going to use insulation under my carpets but i am thinking of something extra to put onto the steel to keep rust at bay .

Use tar deadener and a pair of gloves an mask.(if your not sure about any substances always ask,as you have)and wear safety gear anyway.cheers

when buying any product always ask the person you are buying it from for a copy of the "MSDS" or Material Safety Data Sheet....
retailers are by required by law to supply these on request for consumers who want to know the hazards of using a product...

Yeah definitely get a good mask. Not one of those crappy paper ones but a real one that blocks out particles as well as vapors. They cost a little bit but youll use them over and over again (you can change the filters), and your health is paramount...

thanks hainzy, hqgts and jim for the feedback. i was to keen at getting on with it to even worry about it which i know i stupid. i have a gas mask but ill hae to chase up suitable filters as im sure the ones i have are only for welding gases etc.

I got one of those wire wheels that you put on the end of the electric drill, then went over the whole floor, then cleaned it all up with thinners n stuff then tarred it. That worked for me as mine wasnt very rusty but others might have different methods.

hey 80737k whats rust bullet? i went down to supercheap today as its the closest shop near me and all i could find was pressure packs called chasis black n i was thinking of putting a coat of that before laying down my tar deadner. what about cold gal as

Rust bullet is a product like POR15 (or marketed as such).
I had a bad run with it on my bodywork but im not inclined to blame the Rust bullet, more myself for incorrect surface prep.
I aint bagging the stuff and i still hope its all they say but im not |
