Is it worth more factory original or not?

Hi Guys,
I word of advice from my learned brethren is required.
I have just purchased a 1974 LH SL four door Torana.
It is a factory 202 with factory M-20, 4 on the floor.
It has factory bucket seats and centre console.
It has an original 63,000 klms on the clock.
The interior is as it came from the factory with the usual fading of the tops of the door trims. But apart from that the upholstery is very, very good. It even has the original carpet which is not in bad nick at all.
It has a few issues with faded paint and the odd scratch or car park ding but overall presents way above average for a 35 year old car.
If the vehicle turns out to be all matching numbers and considering it has done less than 2,000 klms a year since it was made, am I better off restoring this car to as it came off the factory floor which will basically be some miner body-work, paint and under-carriage and engine bay tidy up OR drop a 308 and M-21 in it???
I was going to give it to my son for his first car and he can drop a V8 in it down the track, but the more I think about it I am not sure this is the way to go.
I await your thoughts.
Cheers, Allan

I think original will always prove to be better and it can only be original once, so if you were to drop the 308 and m21 in it, keep the 202 and m20 for another day somewhere down the track either you guys or the next owner will prob want it .
good luc

i would pay more for it orriginal, it all depends on what the person wants. im a bit of an orriginal person myself so if a car had a 6 in it orriginally and someone dropped a V8 in it i would turn it away.

personally i think it woulod be a shame to modify it but in all reality a mock up SLR 5000 will probably always get more money than a stock 6 cylinder LH 4 door....
dammed if you do and dammed if you dont
but its up to you...

Personal choice. Itll be worth about the same in the end as long as you dont do any silly stuff to the body, but very original cars are thin on the ground nowadays. Id seriously consider leaving it original but having said that a V8 upgrade is easily reve |

I think keeping something dead stock original shows a lack of imagination or fear of being criticised.
Its your car do whatever you like to it. If someone else buys it off you and doesnt like what youve done they can change it again.
You can always |
You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

Allan, Does your son really appreciate a classic like this or is he just looking for transport .A young bloke could get pretty bored with a bog stock factory original car and will feel the need to enhance the motor , put 20 inch wheels on it , cut a sunro |

At the moment it will get stored in the back of the shed with a cover over it until I decide what to do.
As a matter of interest I gave Shannons a call as I have both my CV-8 and HJ Coupe insured with them. Even taking into consideration the Toranas l

Any car will always be worth more in stock standard condition as it will appeal to a wider group who are looking for that particular model of car to buy. More buyers means you can command a higher selling price. Once you modify a car it will appeal to a v

Yes interesting that Shannons think because its a 6 its never going to be worth anything, maybe they need to get out there and see the price of a 186S GTS.
Modified or not cars appeal to different people, it depends on the mods made, what the starting
