Hi guys.
just looking at VANMANs 6 cyl van for sale in the buy and sell section.

Have a look at the drivers door,
it looks original, has the putty crap around the regulator bolts etc, + and the canvass stuff over the entry points to the regulator.

And the paint looks factory....

I have a same month HJ sandman ute, Melb build, march 75, and it has ash trays in the doors, and so does my sept '75 van....
That door doesn't appear to have the cut out for the ash tray.

Perhaps this is one of the best ways of telling a belmont apart from an XU3 - Particularly with HJ, which are the hardest to pick pre sept 1975.

Another side issue: I have 2 x V8, 4 sp HZ utes and 1 x 6 cyl, 4 sp HX van in the paddock which have sandman compatible paint and trim codes, and 2 seaters.
I know they are Belmonts, and both utes are 2200 Kg. the van 2155 kg.
these also have interior light switches in the doors.

with the tyre placards available on the internet now, or, just change a glovebox lid if you want.
It is opening up the window for everyone to claim XU3 sandman status.

when , really the XU3 is very rare.

My view is if it ain't Brisbane XU3 sandman, or has documentation to prove that it originally was a sandman (particularly Sept 1975 build onwards).
It is not a sandman.
we have to draw the line in the sand.

Otherwise every man and his dog is only $29.95 away from coverting a compareable belmont to XU3 sandman.

My thoughts are I dont think its up to anyone to draw any lines in the sand. Its buyer beware. What I mean is would you pay top dollar for something that you yourself cannot prove (to yourself) is the genuine article? If I came across an imamculate HZ HOL

Firstly,
VANMAN, i am not doubting that yours is genuine, as its a early HJ
and you cant tell if its supposed to be XX7 or XU3 according to the ADR tag.
After september 1975 Build, you can tell the two apart on the ADR tag, and thats whats beco

The only thing that doesnt match up is the engine number it seems. Documentation lists it as ZT31915 (Late HZ 308) but the ad lists 11QT738044 (Statesman 308)

Is it true that Adelaide built Sandmans (Ute or Van), didnt have XX7,XU3 on the compliance plates anyway?

Yes, neither did Sydney or Melbourne built Sandmans, GTS 4 doors, Vacationers etc. Only Acacia stamped the build option code on the BODY plate.
