Hi Guys,
I own amongst other toys a 2001 CV-8 Monaro, build number 20 something, and one of only 100 or so with a 2001 build date. Nothing to write home about but I love it!
My question is, I intend to hang onto this car and eventually pass it onto my boys in the distant future so are their any parts I should be hoarding now for the long term that may be plentiful now and not so in 20 or 30 years time???
I await your thoughts!
Cheers, Allan

I just bought 2 new front bars for my V2 CV8, and they had to come from dealers in SA and WA. So they wont be available for much longer. Im also going to grab some plastic bits for around the feet area. The other bit that breaks a lot is the catches off a |

ALL THE PLASTICS. as byron said, bumpers are scarce, as are all plastic side moulds from VT-VZ. The reason being the company stilcraft or silcraft or something like that went broke, and another company has just traken over, when i say just, well about 12

The compartment door under the radio and in the rear of the console have two types of mechanisms, the early VT is the one to get, as they do not break, but the one with the little push clip fails, thy are available from Holden for $20 something but are on

In 20 - 30 years time your boys will be flying not driving. Its an interesting subject when you sit down and think about what will be. If the world keeps changing (technologically) at the rate it has, we will see many things that were only blue-print on

I doubt if in 20 years time kids will be driving those cars as much. Theyre just not built to last that long, technology will move on, meaning the features in those cars may become obsolete and hard to repair/replace. Yes the new cars are not a durable, I mean those grey motors were good for 60,000 miles before you needed to rebuild them (Holden actually advertised that one as a sales plus)
And yes the plastic, like all those tail light lenses that are no good, dash

Yeah - Warren, I sort of see where HQforme is coming from with his post. I think in terms of technology today, it is a throw away society. Things are made to have a limited shelf life. I think that may well be part of vehicle manufacturers ploy to sell

Im 24, and the people i know with VR/VS or VT commodores only have them because they dont have the passion it takes to own and drive an old car. They like cars enough to have something "cool" and with some grunt. When it breaks, they buy new stuff. When t Edited by user Sunday, 26 April 2009 8:56:06 AM(UTC)

But the same was said about my generation, compared to the baby boomers.
Most of the guys I know in my age goup have never wanted an old car and have always had the attitude of replacing their car within 10 years of age. Many of my dads friends have on

windscreen wiper motors, bits and pieces off the dash, any stray plastic stuff, what you have to remember is that when a car is wrecked everyone keeps the engine, doors, panels etc, but no one thinks to keep the door hinges or clips that hold the plstic o
