Hi I just replaced flywheel and put every thing back together and turned over engine and starter motor smashed all the teeth off. Could I get some help please as to what I did wrong. Car is a xf 91 model. Edited by user Friday, 29 May 2009 8:15:03 AM(UTC)

Did you compare the old flywheel to the new one, count the teeth and check the setback of the teeth? The starter motor did not have a spacer and you left it out, I don't think that model had spacers. Can't help you on that model, but I know Clevelands ha

bein a xf , i would say its a 6 cylinder offhand ?.
my guess is ya didnt put the torque convertor all the way back into the box.... you drop it on the input shaft, turn it half a turn and push, it should drop deeper into the bellhousing. I usually spi

Hi it is 6 cylinder and its auto, torque convertor is all the way back or bell housing wont bolt to engine.
I brought fly wheel off ebay and it looks cheap metal like cast iron that the ring is made from.
I have spent 2 days work on this and cry cry |

You din't put the new flex plate on backwards did you?
A mate of mine did this with a 302W and the engine locked solid when he got it all back together.

I just hade a look and it only fits one way for xf so it went on the right way, when I put the tourque converter on I fixed it to the flex plate then put the geaar box on. Is this where I went wrong as Docktor said I didnt get tourque converter all the wa |

The torque convertor slips into the tranny bellhousing, rotate and push it in, you should feel it slot back about 3 times on the shaft and then it is home all the way. I usually support the convertor on the centre knob to hold it square when pushing it in

how did you get your flex plate bolted to your crank if you had already bolted the flex plate to the torque convertor ??. Fly wheel = manual flexplate = auto usually.
