MEDIA RELEASE
Street Machine Summernats to rock in 2010
A consortium led by Andy Lopez, an event producer with a long history of staging events in Canberra, has purchased the rights to stage the Street Machine Summernats for the next three years. Summernats 23 will be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) from 7 10 January 2010.
The Street Machine Summernats has been and will always be about the cars, Mr Lopez said. The event gives street machine enthusiasts the opportunity to share their passion, their skill and show off the incredible machines that are being built in garages and backyards all over Australia. The event is unashamedly for people who love street machines and that will never change. But with us coming on board there is an opportunity to freshen up the Nats without compromising its core values.
Mr Lopez said that the 23rd Street Machine Summernats will deliver a much enhanced entertainment program to support the elite car competition and driving displays. There will be Aussie rock concerts on the Friday and Saturday nights and more family friendly activities on the Sunday. Acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
Mr Lopez also announced naming rights sponsor, Street Machine Magazine, has signed on again for Summernats 23 and beyond.
Street Machine Magazine is very happy to continue our 22 year association with Summernats, said ACP Magazines Publishing Director, Phil Scott.
Mr Lopez confirmed former owner of the event, Chic Henry, will be retained as a consultant.
Chic has the knowledge, experience and contacts to help make our event a success, Mr Lopez said. We will be accessing his expertise to ensure that we stage a fantastic Street Machine Summernats this coming January.
Were happy the ACT Government, through EPIC, has reached an agreement with us to hold the event for the next three years, Mr Lopez said.
Im sure that the local businesses and workers, who benefit from the Nats being held, will also be happy that its staying in Canberra in whats otherwise a very quiet time of year.
I know the Nats isnt everyones cup of tea, but I hope that people will set aside some of their preconceptions and come and take a look at the biggest event in the ACT.
