All

Below are the tags on my HK Monaro. I understand from the big tag that this is a regular (non GTS) Monaro from Pagewood in Ermine White over Goya Red, engine unknown, but believed to originally be a 161 (now 307). Are these details correct so far?

Is it possible to guess an approximate date for this build? Is there anything that can be gleaned from the small tag?

Cheers and thanks in advance

Yes, HK Monaro. Could be any engine from 161 through to 307. Gearbox crash through to V8 powerglide or M21 Saginaw 4spd. I'll get a closer build timeframe for you, can you get me the chassis number from under the body tag?

Note that GMH appears (at least a Pagewood) to have built a large volume of Monaro prior to GTS or GTS327. I know that there were at least 250 Monaros built prior to GTS and GTS327, and even at Pagewood Monaro #249 the PSN, chassis and engine numbers are still significantly lower than either of my Pagewood GTS327 #2 and GTS #20.

There are ways to pick the original driveline, will help you with that if you like. Most likely combination for a HK Monaro from Pagewood this early are:

6cyl 3spd.
6cyl all synchro 3spd.
6cyl column auto.
V8 column auto.

Just about impossible at this timeframe are:

V8 M21 4spd.
V8 auto console shift.
6cyl console shift (auto or manual).
6cyl 4spd floor shift (very unlikely but possible).

Thanks. I am reasonably sure it was a 161 column auto, but that combination is long gone so the 307 will stay. Nonetheless it is nice to know how it started out.

Interesting that there were a number of 337s before any 837s. This was something that I was wondering. Did both these versions have separate build numbers then? I am guessing so if your #2 ad #20 have older chassis numbers.

The chassis number is HK 20832 S, if I have read it correctly.

Yes, different number sequences. Both #2 GTS327 and #20 GTS have chassis numbers HK231xxSS and were built in the first week of July 68. Yours is significantly earlier. We think they did a bulk lot of Monaro before any GTS as something wasn't ready for GTS, the fact all early Broughams appear to be column shift suggests it was the console. Tjete is a few things i'd like to get you to check, will PM you. Yours may have some rare body sections.
