I have been trying to find a nice clean pair of engine splash trays, that sit down between the front crossmember, there seems to be 2 different types, not sure if its a Melbourne Sydney thing or a series one and two thing, some of them seem to have a hole towards the front on passenger side tray, sydney series one no hole and Melbourne series two has the hole, only something different I have just realised any help greatly appreciated, benny.

I can only see one part number for each side from the very earliest HK parts book right through to the HG parts book. Unless there was a mod made as part of the recalls done on HT GTS350M? Is it to do with aftermarket sway bars on Holden V8 HT-HG? There may have been a running change but the same part number was kept as well.

Note there is no series 1 or 2 HK, they are all the same. There is two types of 327 engines in HK, but the cars are the same otherwise - nothing changed with the 6cyl and 307 cars.

Maybe it was a drain hole added along the way? Someone here will know.

The HT350 has the hole. I've never seen a LH one without the hole before. If you have a photo, please post it.
I believe it aligns with the bottom radiator clamp on 6 cylinder radiators.
It's main purpose might also be as a drain hole.

You may also want to have a look at the "HT GTS 350 splash trays - a true mystery" thread for more discussion on the subject. There are different part numbers for a special vented splash trays for HT, but they remain a mystery.

I just asked Ben Stewart too, he has never found paperwork for it but says it appears for HT, possibly for the radiator hose clamp for 253/308. It is higher than the back of the pan so probably not for a drain but might be power steering?
The HT GTS350 manual splash trays from the May 1969 parts catalogue amendment are probably part of Harry's wish list items, possibly originally designed for the oil cooled front brakes that never saw the light of day outside Engineering and Lang Lang. Harry probably wanted the same vented pans along with the slotted wheels both of which he got told no. He got the wheels back after Sandown 1969 but not the splash pans. I reckon they'd have worked just like the XU1's chin spoiler and later the A9X's air ducts.

HK-T-G splash pans are only there to keep water out mainly, the 6 cly were never really good driving through water but my V8 HG could go through water a foot deep for miles as fast as you could drive Angel wings sky high and never miss a beat, HQ to WB were ok in water but had nothing on the HK-T-G .

...all to do with the distributor, and its placement on the engine...

...I never did quite understand how the HK-T-G were so close cowled down there, and then the HQ's came along...no outrigger or pans....and with the widest open spaces ???

Because HK-HG were designed here, HQ in the main weren't.

The problem with the 6 cyl is that the fan tosses water over the dizzy on the HG and before them.
Pull the fan off and they are better, I never had a fan when I lived out bush only in the city you needed to put it back on because of all the stop start driving slow stuff.

I could go through creeks in a HQ WB 1 tonne V8 with a bit of tube shoved over the air snorkel winding back to the dizzy and the water would go over the tray and water would push up over the windscreen. hell I have even done that with water coming up to the wiper blades my VY SS ute in one spot of the creek once just idling through and plenty times over the bonnet.

No 6 cyl could do that stuff I found 6 cyl LH Torana's the worse going through water even puddles could cause them to run like a dog.
