what are option codes b30 and sx9 in the hq ss. Is sx9 a misprint in Monaro magic and actually xs9 houndstooth inserts. Cheers bazza.

There would be no or almost no option codes specific to SS.
B30 is carpet. You are probably correct on SX9, XS9 is cloth insert on vinyl trim but doesn't mean houndstooth, it is generic to whatever cloth was standard for the vehicle or trim colour. |

Did the SS get GTS instruments? I though only GTS and Sandman got the GTS's gauges (ie with 140mph speedo later 140/225), and SS kept the speedo as per Kingswood U21 (ie 120mph, later 120/200). |

My foggy memory tells me yes, it came with the GTS cluster, but being a Belmont derivative, missed out on armrests, courtesy lights and the all important (at that point in time) ciggy lighter. Though many dealers fitted the latter bits. I think the SS was a marketing exercise to test the waters to bring out a 4 door GTS to snaffle sales away the Falcon GT?
There is a great Wheels comparison test of the 4 door GTSs when they were released, from the humble 253 through to the 350, pretty sure they threw in an SS which was in fine tune and kept up with the 308. They weren't complimentary about the braking.

I'm still certain the SS only had the Kingswood it was based upon's speedo, When option U21 was applied normally the standard speedo remained but on GTS and Sandman the speedo was 140mph (later 140/225).
The reason the SS was as quick as a 308 GTS was the SS had N10 dual exhaust and the 308 GTS got a single exhaust. |

Sorry it should read as U21 Full Instrument Cluster. Regular production SS's had the 120mph speedo and at least some of the road test cars had the 140mph speedo. I have a listing of U61 for the Type 4 dash GTS/Sandman variant ??

It could be but the HQ POA documents does it differently again for Sandman - it says U21 but then deletes the original speedo and replaces it with the 140mph one from the GTS. GTS may well be U61. |

Yeah I know, just fingers typing different to what brain was thinking. For the purposes of the argument though it makes no difference as a U21 dash on HQ Belmont or Kingswood should end up with the same result, a 120mph speedo not a 140mph which makes a GTS dash. |

Totally agree. My best mates father wouldn't sell me his lettuce alone HQ SS in 1982 because it had rust in the bottom of the doors and cowl panel. It was a completely original Brisbane built series 1 that he bought new, wanted $3500 for it and I looked all over it and pressured him to sell it to me whenever I went to their place. I remember mentioning to him that it didn't have a GTS speedo and asking why, he said nothing has been changed since he picked it up from the dealer and the mileage shown is original. Sorry to see you are not on My Sandman anymore.... heard from another member some of what happened, very disappointing to say the least.

Nothing happened really, I was just spending too much time there and one person with, lets call it mental issues, made my decision to spend the time elsewhere. |
