Hello all

I've been looking around for a decent book about the Holden V8 to read over the pending colder/wet days of winter.

I already have the book The History of the Holden V8 by Fiv Antoniou which does have a fair few mistakes.

Is there anything else out there worth reading?

I'm working on an article at the moment, but it won't be finished for a while yet as I need archive material and can't get to it until early next year. The more you look the more you find is missing, like a dog chasing its tail!

The only books that I know of that are dedicated to the Holden V8 are:

1. History of the Holden V8 (1968 to 1979) by Fiv Antoniou (the one you mention)
2. Holden 308 V8 Performance Handbook by Greg Brindley
3. The Essential Holden V8 Engine Manual by Larry O'Toole
4. How to Rebuild & Hotrod Holden V8 by Max Ellery

There are several others which cover the cars themselves & include a lot of V8 info such as:- Holden Commodore Performance Handbook (VB-VK) & Holden Commodore Performance Handbook (VL-VP) both by Eric Blair. I'm sure there are also others out there written in a similar vein.

You mention errors in Fiv's book, Having written several books myself, I can tell you some errors will always creep in. Typos are always present, annoyingly so, as are incorrect captions, especially when the source has made the mistake & it wasn't picked up by either the author or the sub-editor. Then there are the ones based on incorrect info from various factory sources, which is seen more often than you can imagine !!

I've found one of the best methods of avoiding errors in print is to get as many 'model specialists' to proof read their relevant sections, before the sub-editor sees them. However, depending on how large the book in question is, some errors will always creep in. The main aim is to get any information as correct possible, as most readers will tolerate a typo or two, rather than reading something that is blatantly incorrect.

On that topic, I'm currently revising & updating my book for the 70 Year edition, so could any of you guys out there that know of any errors in my 60 Year book, please pass them on. I already have a small list of errata to work on.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

The Essential Holden V8 book I'm keeping an eye on via eBay.
Like to find Holden Commodore Performance handbook VB-VK, this seems hard to get.

Looking forward to the 70 year edition Terry and also your article HK1837.
