House prices.
We have gone through another housing mini boom and its freed up some cash.
Happened last time.
Housing likely going to wind back so the steam will come out of cars as well.

If the $1.6M cap on Super gets passed I can't see house prices going anywhere but up as the only tax break left for higher income earners will be negative gearing of assets.

Not a HK but maybe an indication of a GTS 186S value if the $45,000 to $55,000 guiding price is anything to go on.

To be honest, if I owned this I couldn't help but give it a factory authentic looking 308 engine swap.

Nice in the Warrigal black.

Hmmm. I'd be surprised if that goes for less than $55k, if it is as good as it looks. It may even be way more. Would be a great car to stick a 350, TH350 and 9" into but leave otherwise as is other than a conversion to HQ pattern and some 15" rally rims.

It needs something to fill them wheel arches.
Shame the HG GTS monaros didn't get wheel arch trims, I think it would make it look better.

Did the Trimatic GTS have the badge on the boot like this one?

Agree $45-$55 is probably conservative if it's as good in the flesh.

It does look odd. Maybe a blower out the bonnet?

Maybe a centre roof aerial, side pipes, flared guards, 12 slotters, HQ door handles and a eagle mural on the bonnet with XB/C bonnet scoops.

Maybe a set of wheels/tyres like these and some HK wheel arch moulds (which were optional on some HG).

...Ol' mate had factory fitted Fairlane/Fairmont wheel arch moulds on his very original Vermillion Fire XYGT...can't really say i've seen any of these with this option. I had checked quite a few in about 1977 it appeared to be too neat to be an afterfit ??

Hi

Don't under estimate base model Monaros. They have grown their own image in recent years. Take note (and aside from the politics) Nick Gontas base HK in Pinnaroo Beige has won THREE Monaro Nationals Concours trophies. NO GTS Monaro has had three. I feel that has added to the recognition of this level of Monaro. It also recently sold privately for much more than the Shannons' guide price. The HG could well set a record for a base model as it ticks all of the boxes as far as collectibility goes. One family owned, logbooks, mileage, unrestored in excellent cond......and BLACK. Cars like this will steer values generally in the near future.

Cheers.
Nick.

I take a close look when I see a monaro with no flutes. Base models definately have an appeal.

Surprisingly I'm not too fussed on the GTS badge. Models that left the factory as V8,s hold more appeal to me GTS or not.
For some reason a hk 307 base monaro was what I always wanted but one never popped up. Settled for a ht GTS 308

I came close to buying an early HK Monaro many years ago. It was Mako blue with blue trim. 5 litre, auto, air, steer, GTS wheel covers, GTS tail-strip, accessory boot badge an handle, venetians etc. The most original thing you've ever seen, but a bit rough. It was 80337KR-249-H5 but it was built way before my 2-H5 GTS327 and 20-H5 HK GTS as they punched out probably 300 Monaros at Pagewood before they made volume GTS's. In the end I didn't buy it but it was only about $3500.

There seems to have been a pattern to the evolution of the Monaro series model by model with the strangely offered base models being there for really not much purpose...then and now

...HK GTS Monaro never got the bonnet bulges whereas the next iterations did, along with more striping and WOW stuff. HQ Coupe was very plain at the outset, then received the bonnet/boot "rally panels" etc as the model progressed etc. etc.

....This was never more noticeable when the evolution of the V series Monaro's went from single outlet exhaust and very conservative add on bling, to the very cool and totally tarted VZ CV8Z. It seems as though GMH were scared to go full bore at the outset of each series lest they upset the GM people looking down from above...???

At concept Monaro was simply Special Coupe and Premier Coupe. Special became Kingswood and ther was always going to be a Kingswood coupe except it got called Monaro. It was even there for HJ but got dropped pre-release. I think GMH thought the Monaro was going to be the volume seller like Kingswood was in sedan but the public wanted the GTS, and many of the Monaros built for release remained unsold. Some were even sold as new cars into 1969. Remember too that back then a Monaro was a lot cheaper to insure than a GTS, there was even one L30 M41 HQ Monaro, its remains were on Ebay a few weeks ago.

All monaros have an appeal -as for base model vs gts , the flutes and other extras a gts has add to the appeal
I can't see poverty pack monaros ever being worth as much as gts

Nick, I don't know if your referring to the black Monaro as being a base model. If you are it just confirms it's missing something because if you look a bit closer you'll notice it is not a base model. Its a GTS.

If I've misunderstood you, my apologies.
