G'day All .. a thoroughly more mysterious item/part I doubt will ever be discussed when it comes to the annals of GMH history...

....What on earth really was this "Thing" ??

...late edit .. I guess that should say HDT Engine Polariser Think

Are that was a special HP part. No, not high performance, more like hocus pocus ;-) It was touted to align molecules in the engine and bring the power plant good karma, thereby reducing the path of the vehicle through the universe and increasing fuel economy. Cost him a lot of cred and IMHO lost him the support of GHM.

The energy polariser was the brain child of Dr Eric Dowker, a chiropractor and for some time Brock's spiritual guru.

The story I heard was that Dowker would appear in Brock's workshop, pick up parts to go in the cars and reject them if they didn't have the right "energy".

I leave it to you to decide if it was all new age hocus pocus, but the record does show that GM-H were unconvinced by this new direction taken by Brock.

Haha "the polariser".

Part of the reason that brock went from modifying Holden's to modifying Lada Samara's.

Hard to believe but true, they were called Lada Samara Sedan Brock Delux. And guess what, they didn't have polarisers...

You have to be very careful cutting into them. The friction and resultant heat can create a blackhole- just sayin'

To my knowledge they consisted of a few magnets cast into a plastic box with epoxy.

I've heard that when Larry Perkins worked at HDT (just before he left) he had one cut in half sitting on his office desk, to hold paper clips, just to get up Brock's nose.

...yes I had heard that the tampering with one of these could result in the emissions of massive amounts of Higgs Bosons resulting in a Quantum Flux that could send the tamperer into another dimension via a little known Spacetime Warp described as a "Wormhole"...

....It's probably why Brocky got the sack from HDT....GMH couldn't have litigants wanting massive payouts for landing them on the Planet Zork !!!

Brock believed it worked.

Brock was into Crystals and believed such things do have powers.

May of been brainwashed into believing such things and that's maybe why he was the best at Bathurst to get your head set for the race some people would consult some thing they believe in before hand to help them.

Now I remember someone called Alan who drove for 500 miles himself an won the bloody race, what was he on ?

Or Bruce who drove for 500 miles himself (minus of course about 3.8 miles done by Barry).

There was an interview conducted by Andrew Denton on "Enough Rope" in 2005 where Peter Brock attempts to basically explain the workings of this device (episode 86)...Someone may be able to post a link.

Ummmm he didn't get the sack from HDT. Holden stopped its contract with HDT. As it was Holden was already in talks with a certain scot, Mr Walkinshaw before that faithful 20 Feb 1987 day.....

Brock sold his stake with HDT roughly in 1988.

Brocky went through a phase where he started believing and saying some pretty strange things. About a year before the energy polariser thing happened, Peter and Bev gave an interview for a woman's magazine and Peter was quoted as saying " We are currently working on building the perfect car" Brock modified Holdens were great cars, but the 'perfect car' is stretching it a bit.

If you can get a copy of the book The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock by Bill Tuckey its a great story about what was going on at HDT around then as told by John Harvey.
I chucked my copy in the bin last year after the rats got to it but if you ever go to the Salvos you can sometimes pick it up for a couple of bucks.
