G'day all .. watched a short period promo vid on youtube on the weekend showing HK Monaro's of various descriptions and noticed the GTS's didn't have the boot or bonnet stripes. Even the GTS 327 didn't have 'em....was that just very early production or was there a "series 2" HK GTS range having these stripes ?

There was no series 2 HK, I don't think that term appeared until the 80's for WB or thereabouts.

From memory the stripes over the top were optional on GTS and a delete option on GTS327, but the side stripes were always there.

Note that in those early ads if you look close you can see the GTS327 is only a mockup or at least not in the same form as the production cars, obvious telltales are the suspension isn't sitting right and it doesn't have the quad exhaust.

This one?

Warren is right, HK side stripes were fixed, and top stripes were optionally delete items. I was getting confused with HT where I think side stripes are not standard on GTS or GTS V8, to get side stripes it was option D93, but both side and top stripes standard on GTS350.

...thanks for the link Byron .. that's a pretty "lairy" vid lol. When mentioning the optional "top" stripes are we referring to the roof ?... or the boot/bonnet on HK GTS....

...Just a late edit regarding the GTS 327 in the vid, the console mounted tacho shows up briefly part way in....

Top stripes are those over the top. These were deleteable. Des Wests' car from 1968 was a DX3

The roof too? I don't think I've ever seen that on HK, HT, or HG.

Again correct, have a bad head cold at the moment and typed in a hurry not thinking - Detective lead me astray mentioning roof! I've fixed the post.

....the defective detective lol !....Probably a near impossible question to answer, but has anyone had any "recent" knowledge of these delete option Monaros still in their original guise ? Pretty sure the body plate wont tell you.

...I had an Ultra White delete option XYGT about 20 years ago and you could back it in that she still wouldn't be like that now....

I know of a delete stripe HZ XX7 van - the current owner bought it new in 1978. These were common though as the HX and HZ stripes were not popular.

You are right that the ID plates won't help.

Yes, I fear you've fallen into bad company there.

I believe the HT GTS350 didn't have an option code available to delete the side stripes, so they all had them.

From memory I think you are right, all normal HT GTS350 by design had all stripes whether they be black or gold.

...while we're at it .. Were the 350 decals also an option or part of a "pack" ? From back in my day they seemed to be reserved for the more brighter/louder looking cars ? I'm pretty sure my HQ coupe had them, but only otherwise saw them on HG with the print being smaller ??

There was a one owner white HK 327 for sale around 4 or 5 years ago that had the delete stripes.

Some others might remember it advertised on ebay with one off the photo's showing it towing a caravan when new.
