Did HK have 67' small journal 327 or 68 large journal 327 ?

To my knowledge all SBC V8s fitted to Holdens were large journal.

As above. '67 small journal production ceased around July 1967 almost 12 months prior to 327 usage in HK or 6 months prior to their usage in GMH assembled '68 Chev and Pontiac.

I did have 3858180 in there but now I've got a 3782870 that I'm going to build up.probably a corvette engine as it's got double humps on it
So the large journal engine must be quite rare?

Not really, lots made from about 7/67 through to the end of 327 in 1969 model, plus the crankshaft is identical to 307 which were made for a lot longer.

Ok, so what was the block casting number for the HK 327 and the head casting number?

Tonawanda HK 327 and 1968 Chev/Pontiac assembled by GMH were 3914660. Heads were 3917290. It is probable both these castings were unique to Tonawanda but i'm not yet certain of this. These were L73 engines in the USA, although it does appear that Flint assembled L73 used a bigger chamber head (75cc versus 69cc).

McKinnon HK 327 were 3932386 with 3927188 heads, both McKinnon cast, but these were a bitza as there was no 4BBL low comp 327 for 1969 (9/68 onwards) and thus used Tonawanda 4BBL intakes and I think 1 x Tonawanda exhaust manifold.

It is combined knowledge on these that has come from years of looking and head scratching by multiple people. Warren and Ben really got research on these rolling with their book, and subsequent years has seen massive amounts of new info appear. The problem is a lot of the things we see as quirks with the engines are simply just model-year changes in US or Canadian vehicles. As an example one of the myths repeated and regurgitated over time is that GMH made the HQ less powerful as it was no longer needed for racing duties, however as far as GM was concerned they gave GMH exactly the same specification engine for HQ as they'd given GMH for HT (L48 which was the base 4BBL 350ci engine), just the GM specification for L48 changed with changes to both fuel and emissions laws - just like L31 here changed a few times - HT-HQ, changed for HJ, changed for HX, changed for HZ, changed for VB, changed for VC/WB.
