I have a carburetta XF & trhe EGR valve is claped.
I know what the EGR is suposed to do & popular opinion is that you can simply block it off with out problems.
I'm contemplating my options.

in practice what does EGR achieve and what are the implications of bunging it up.

Normally they are carboned up and do not flow anyway. Anti-polution stuff to pass Australain emission controls, most of the old cars would not pass even under there original ADR's coz they block up the port in the manifolds which stops the gas flow.

I think it may run leaner.
I think in reality the EGR is the biggest load of rubbish ever introduced in to a motor. it achieves, to use more fuel & and the cost of the car.

The EGR valve was introduced as part of ADR27a. It's purpose is to recirculate up to 10% of exhaust gas to keep combustion chamber temperatures down. This reduced the emission of oxides of nitrogen from your exhaust.

Well turns out I don't have much choice in the matter.
You cant buy a replacement EGR valve for any XF or earlier from ford.

so I drilled up a lump of flat bar to blank of the inlet manafold and

installed a pair of 2 cent pieces ( that I kept for s
