There is still plenty of money around for the right cars. This Verdoro Green HT350M attracted plenty of interest.
The price has been removed from the Shannons website, but it's a matter of public record that it went for $225,000.

Cerulean is one that normally trips them up. eBay listings are an interesting read on the myriad of different ways people try to spell it, let alone pronounce it....

I am always happy when I see any sale that increases the value of my car but I dont get why this car sold for so much money.
Sure its a survivor and I get that - but 225K ? And its not a nice survivor, its got a few wrong bits and it looks like crap.
So why so much money ?
Any opinion ?

Any car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay, after all. HK327 prices have been quite high of late, with several examples changing hands for around that price. HK327 are far more common than HT GTS350, and to an even greater extent HG350, and both the HT and HG350 are a better car.

Put that price in the context of the Kashmir White/Twilight Blue HT GTS350 that controversially won concours and best restoration at the recent Motorclassica show in Melbourne against a horde of high end cars. The car owes the owner $500k, or so he was telling people at the show, with $400k of that spent on the restoration. That car is far from an accurate restoration. Even the grille GTS badge, for example, is in the wrong place. Maybe it deserved concours, but it was not an accurate restoration within my understanding of the meaning of that word.

When there are people prepared to publicly sling that sort of money around it has to impact the price, at least temporarily.

"They are only original once" would be my answer and documented history, low miles apparently. And top of the tree model of the time. There has been a growing appreciation for unrestored cars generally. Generally it looks good body/rust wise (in saying that I haven't seen it in the flesh) this would be pretty rare for cars of the era not to have had past problems in the rust department.

Hi.

My two bobs worth. HKGTS327/HTGTS350M cars are in their own way the equivalent to their GTHO competitors of the day. The HK was the FIRST Holden to win the Bathurst 500 mile race. Both models were highly successful in production racing of the day.

I prefer Fords but I went and bought a fantastic HK327. I paid bucket loads for it ten years ago. In fact I paid todays price then. I am happy with my car and I belivev that finally HK/T Homologation GTS Monaros are recognised for their important position in history.

As I have stated before these cars are now every bit as hard to find as XW/XY GTHO Falcons. They have been undervalued for some time.

The white Motorclassica car is less accurate than an older resto like mine because parts are so bloody hard to find. The investment in the white car underwrites the value of more accurate cars.

Nick has just used the term incorrectly, but he isn't alone - most motoring journalists today think the HK-HT 81837 were homologation vehicles. Of all of them though they are the opposite as neither was conceived and built to race in Series production and thus at Bathurst. True the HT did have the 500 mile race significantly more in its sights that than the HK ever did, but in truth both of these cars and the HG facelift are Australia's only true Muscle Cars as they are the only ones that are image car first but still have race car performance. They are essentially GM's Pontiac GTO. The bulk of the rest are actually cars purpose built to race or in the case of some (A9X) are a true homologation vehicle. Depending upon who you believe (in terms of the original purpose of the car) the VH E55 is probably the next closest to the HK-HG 81837 as an image car but still with muscle, however its auto only and restrictive exhaust probably only hid it from view more than the Holdens.

I have to disagree with that one. I wonder if you've actually seen the car? A glistening, flawless paint job, with plenty of hi fill so the panel lines are almost invisible. It impresses the hell out out of everyone who sees it, but it is not accurate.

Many of the problems with the car are caused by lack of knowledge and consultation, not lack of parts.
For example, the grille badge is incorrectly located, the wheel arch and sill moulds are infill painted, the engine is the wrong colour, the brake booster is shiny gloss black, the inside surface of the floor pan is a vision of gloss black painting perfection, the door gaps have been extensively modified so that they are uniform from top to bottom, the stainless steel moulds have been polished to a mirror finish, etc etc.
There are many more issues of which only a few are due to parts availability.

Does it underwrite the value of other cars? Maybe, but even the owner has conceded that he has spent far too much on the "restoration". It's probably the right job to win an event like Motorclasica with judges not familiar with Monaros, but it would it would not win an event like the Monaro nationals.
