The latest news on the new NSW CVS rego scheme (for modified cars) is that it will be officially announced on the 19th Dec this year & should be operational by 1st Jan 2017. Dr Terry Edited by user Wednesday, 30 November 2016 6:17:48 PM(UTC)

My rego runs out on the 22 dec , I'll wait until the 1st if It is going to come in.

Consistent advocacy by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) over many years for sensible light vehicle lift regulations has achieved a welcome outcome in New South Wales following the State Government announcement allowing 4WD vehicle lifts of 75 mm without certification. NSW Roads, Maritime and Freight Minister Duncan Gay has released a “Light Vehicle Modifications Manual – Suspension and Ride Height”. This manual “ . . . allows ride height to be increased by 75mm; comprising 50mm suspension and 25mm wheel/tyre without requiring certification under the Vehicle Safety Compliance Scheme.” A 50mm tyre diameter increase means a 25mm lift.

are you able to go straight onto the scheme with your car needing to be blue slipped ?

cheers jason Yes & no. Because you need to belong to a car club which is affiliated with one of the groups in the ACMC, it is up to how your particular club operates. In my club, we've discussed this at length & any existing club member can go onto the scheme ASAP. Find a club which suits your needs & go thru the process. If they make it too hard, find another car club. You need 3 (or maybe 4) things to get NSW CVS rego. 1. The 1859 permit, stamped & signed by your club registrar. 2. A Blue Slip 3. An Engineering report on any mods outside VSI6 guidelines (if required). 4. ACMC processing. Once you have your paperwork back from the ACMC, front up at you local RTA/RMS with some $$ for you new rego & log book, plus a once-off fee for your new plates. Does anyone have a link to what the rules or proposed rules will be for the "concessional rego" scheme? things like driving restrictions, log books, approved outings and the like?

Hi Dr. Terry thanks for the prompt reply, Just a question re- point three. Does any trip literally mean "any" trip ie - driving to work every other day? down to the shops?, heck, going on a weeks holiday up the coast with the family? is there some mileage/ use limit? Not trying to be rude, just genuinely wanting to get a good understanding of what this will mean for myself any im sure many other old holden owners out there. Thanks in advance for all your hard work and input into this forum and others as well. Respectfully, Al

There's no mileage limit as such, and yes, you can drive it to work on the logbook.
A logbook entry is for a day, not a trip. So you fill it in before you leave, and you can drive wherever you like on that day - one entry would cover you to/from work, and via the petrol station or anywhere else on the way home as well.
Be careful of the "cinderella catch" as we've nicknamed it - if you go out one evening, and you're not home by 11:59:59pm, then you need to fill in a new entry for the following day, as each entry only covers a day. If you're on a 4-5 day trip, fill in a new entry for each day - technically you could fill these in in advance so you don't forget during the trip (easy to do if it's like some of the annual events I go to).
You have 60 days you can use - so that's effectively one day every week with a few spares. You don't need an entry for an official club event, so you have even more usage available to you.

How does the acmc processing work, do you have to send off or go to a office etc

First step is to get your blue slip, and if required, copies of the engineering approval.
Second step is to have your club (who must be affiliated with the CMC or one of the sub-bodies that are part of the ACMC) complete & stamp the form that says you're a financial member in good standing, and the car meets the club guidelines (ie mods are legal etc).
Then the forms are sent to the ACMC via fax or (scanned)email, along with a $25 payment.
Approved forms are then emailed/faxed back to the sender, with the ACMC stamp on them.
Once you have that form with both stamps, then you can go to the RMS and get the rego process completed. |

PM me with your email address, and I'll send you more info. Big question - are you currently a member of a club that is in the HVRS? If not, then there's no point going any further. If they are already authorised for HVRS, and aren't a member of the ACMC or associated bodies listed here: http://www.confederation...g.au/affiliations.html, then they need to get onto that ASAP. A club can only be part of the CVS if both those things are satisfied. |

Hahaha, I'm sure we'll find a few more like that. The other thing to ponder is how many RMS staff have been given any training on this? Thankfully with the ACMC involvement, we'll have a decent chance at a successful trial, as the abusers will be held to account. Seems like you can commence the process - which will take a bit of time to get through the ACMC anyway (post/fax/email, payment identification & clearing etc) so it may well be Jan 3 before you can get all the papers together for a visit to the RMS. |

I might be a bit cynical but why if you can keep a log book to claim your vehicle as a tax deduction, can't you do the same for cheaper rego on a classic car? Why do we need to be tied to a club? Surely owning and enjoying a classic car does not automatically mean you want/need to be involved with a club.
