Hi all.

Just looking at purchasing a Cleveland 351 I'm advised is out of an F100, and I was just after some help regarding the engine numbers supplied to me.
They are :JG32UP57969K:
Any info regarding this engine would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Glenn.

Hello Glenn,
Don't know about the numbers as the engine could have all manner of internals due to it's age but if you remove a spark plug and turn the engine over by hand whilst feeding some wire down the spark plug hole you can get an indication as to what it is because it will have a 3" stroke if 302 and a 3.5" stroke if 351. Who knows you may get lucky and find it has been stroked to more than 351.

HTH, Jim.

32 = Fairmont GXL
U = 1978
P = Aug
302 heads can be ID as to the 351 but it's hard to explain.
Or if the original intake is on it, one can tell that way as well.

Hi,

I'm going to bring this topic up again, I have a 351C with the following numbers;

JG71KJ*****K

According to http://www.fomoco.com.au/ID.html the engine is;

JG = Australia, Broadmeadows
71 = LTD
KJ = 1970, May

The date stamp of 1970, May has me confused. If 71 is the correct code for LTD I did not think there were LTD's in 1970?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

It maybe 21 and not 71 making it a Falcon sedan.
It maybe R and not a K making it 1975 and J = Sep.
Making it JG71RJ******K out of a 1975 LTD made in Sep.

One thing first up is it a D block, if it is it's a 1970 block, but if it's a square block it's not a 1970 block.

Look at the block casting it will have the date cast on it, something like 22B2 on it or 2B22 that's the date code USA is year number then date letter and then date number, Aussie cast block is date number first them month and then year.

So down on the driver side of the block you will see near to the rear a bit that juts out with something like D0AE-J and something like 3B22 for the casting date.

I have checked again and it is an R, sometimes just a prompt is all is needed to see things differently! It is 71 for sure.

I'll check the casting for a D another time. The block is a F100 already so it's quite hard to see at that end of it at the moment, I'm in wind down mode so I'll tackle that on a fresh day.

Thanks for your help!
