Has anyone had a good look over the HG 308 4 speed going for auction at Lloyds? Just had a bit of a look and ummm yeah, buyer beware with this one. http://www.lloydsonline....;smode=0&lid=1040899Edited by user Wednesday, 26 April 2017 4:59:03 PM(UTC)

It doesn't seem to have any glaring faults from the photos. What do you think is the problem?

"This Monaro came with factory power steering and ‘Bathurst’ fuel tank as factory options"
I was just wondering what the PO number for the "Bathurst fuel tank" was.
Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Now, now Terry. You're stirring. I seem to remember you saying something about false expressions like "FX Holden", and that they are OK when they enter the common vernacular.
The "Bathurst" stuff is particularly jarring though, I agree. I thought the 25 gallon tank was a legitimate option on 80837 HG cars, but can't find any proof of it at the moment.

Terry is right. I have HK Commercial, Monaro and Brougham release vehicle and options pricing for both taxable and non-taxable sales, plus a full price list for all available options even options not officially available but have been priced as do-able for special customers who could get stuff done outside the guidelines on the order forms. I also have HT options list for release.
In both, the only option under "fuel and exhaust" is N10 dual exhaust (V8 only). If it was there from new I suspect it was fitted by the selling dealer as a spare part, but you never know sometimes with these things.
I suspect given the comments that looking at the car in person is necessary though...... |

Take a good long hard look at the ID plates. Compare them with other ID plates.

I suspected that might be the case given the original comment.....Haven't looked hard enough at them as yet. Spoke to Ben about the bigger tank. Apparantly it was available on anything, but very limited. For some reason its PO code does not appear in the HK or HT paperwork but it was at least available later in HT as there is a broadcast sheet for a car with one. I'll bite( but I know nothing really) No dash between numbers Rivets different Edge line different.
I would have thought that would not be enough to call as incorrect considering the differences across the plants.

I think that's good advice for any of the high dollar cars coming up these days. The fakes are becoming more sophisticated as the prices increase and, in spite of how many people it may upset, it's reasonable to conduct cars offered for public sale to public scrutiny on this forum. As long as that scrutiny is balanced and evidence based. From the photos supplied the car looks reasonably correct, with the possible exception of the painted gearbox, and has the right SEMS in the front fenders, the correct short Preslite wiper motor, and some of the other detail you'd look for a in HG from this plant. I will not get to see the car, so can only go on the photos. There are discrepancies with the large tag, which has been off the car by the look of it, such as the alignment and stamping method, but not enough for me to call foul. Every plant had their own conventions and way of doing some things, and the tag stamping is just one of those. It wouldn't surprise me if one person did that job for 20 years, and the tags bear their own stamp of individuality. There are some other paths available to reduce the risk with this car, if someone is serious about buying it.

I guess as an owner of a set of repro HK GTS 327 tags, I can spot them a mile away. The alloy used is quite a bit thinner than genuine. The border around the outside is different. It cant really be seen in these pics, but the font is slightly different. The lion pressing is also not the greatest. But wipe the new tags with a bit of grease and it hides a lot.
Who knows, the car is probably genuine and he needed replacement tags. Mine were stolen, I got a new set and with the luck of the Irish, the dirty little prick that stole mine was found and I got them back.
The fella that makes them is pretty good and will not just go punching out tags willy nilly. I had to prove that they were stolen. But with the price of these cars now, it isnt hard to fake a couple of documents in order to get the tags made.

I bought my car very green to this originality thing and while learning heaps and confidently finding "issues" with selling cars these days. Ill be very nervous when the rebuild starts. There's so many little details. Not difficult or expensive just research research research.
Any tips to go to for accurate info photos of original HTS ????? Half of the 100% original photos I find have significant differences outside the factory differences.
My head hurts.....

Ignoring the tags themselves, someone has gone to great pains to make the body and ADR tags look the same age/weathering etc, which is never the case with AR built cars. |
