wondering if one of you guru,s can tell me what type of starter motor I would need for a ht 350 manual October 69 81837 car... have been told the earlier one with the alloy nose was replaced by a cast iron nose delco remy, but am unsure.. thanks..

350 had 11" flywheel so it isn't the same as a 327, from a Holden or other GMH assembled car anyway. |

so does that mean it ran a special starter that's hard to get or is it the same on us cars running a 350, trying to get everything on this car correct.thanks again..

Dunno, everything else on the engine is standard Tonawanda L48 other than one exhaust manifold, sump, carby and dizzy so I’d assume it is just a stock 1969 11” starter. |

ok, had a lot of trouble finding a carby and alternater, so was wondering if there was a special part number for starter as well, thanks so much for your help..

Our engines got a higher torque starter motor after hot starting problems in the US with early L48 engines with the 168 tooth flywheel. I'd expect to find a 1108418 numbered starter in an original car of that vintage, although others are possible. It has a cast iron nose.

Early L48 was 9/66 so going by what Geoff says above you’d think they’d have worked out by the start of 1969 that the higher torque units were available. A look at SS Camaro may help too. |
