Hello all.
I while ago i seen somewhere a VB SL 210 pack listing. I think its factory L31/M41 and i think G70 diff but that's all i know. Also been told its often called Prestige Pack.

I haven't found anything via that wonderful site Google. I don't have much stuff on VB Commodores either on what option packs are available either.

Would this option be rarer than a VB SL/E 308 or 310 pack?

I know the Commodore's aren't everyone's cuppa tea but they are becoming harder to find rust free and low kays.

Warren Turnbull, Terry Bebbington and Barry Black do not have a 210 option that I can find, so that would make it very rare.
A photo could change history!

Was there actually a package for L31 SL? I know they dropped the L31 engine for VC but bought it back after a while, so it was probably retail order only in VB.

As suspected there doesn't appear to be an L31 package for SL, so the published packages are quite possibly stock order packages, whereas an L31 in an SL would be a retail order on top of an existing package?

Is it real or is it someone making it up based upon 310 being similar in SL/E? There is a lot of BS info out there, people trying to scam others by creating false cars and info.

Your car must be fitted with one of these packs, it was a way of streamlining the ordering process, just like EH to HR had.

Now we know that only HD and HR from Melbourne put this code on the body id plate then VC to VH also had it.

What happens in VC to VH though is if the vehicle is a "package" like 50th anniversary, police, vacationer, SS etc then the pack code disappears and is sometimes replaced with the option code.

Maybe there was a "prestige Pack" in VB but as VB do not have the pack code on the tag you would need to find an SL with eng code L31.

As Byron said someone may have an SL with L31 and "made up pack 210" as it seemed to fit and probably thought that Holden just left it out of their paperwork. I have failed to find a "prestige pack" in my paperwork.

An old dealer told me they are called Prestige Pack. But I've never heard of it either.

But i have seen VB SL wagon with L31 also 8VL35T on VIN plate.

Assuming it is a real thing, Warren what happens though when something is asked for that is not a normal thing? Like (in our area of interest) for example HK with L34 engine, or a HQ ute optioned with L30 and M41? Surely this sort of stuff happened during VB-VH, where what was asked for was within Engineering guidelines but was not a normal package option. Like if an influential dealer or customer or even an internal order requested a VB SL with L31, M21 and 3.55 LSD rear axle but no air or steer. Would a package code be created for a one-off? I would guess not, and today the car would create interest as it doesn't fit any of the accepted moulds.

If SLENUT says he has sen one then that is good enough for me, but there should be a number for it, even if only internal generated.

As Byron said about HQ with L30 , I cannot find any reference to these models in parts books or service bulletins , but they were manufactured , if your dealer was bothered to order something special , it looks like it has happened though the years with the odd build cars that crop up on this forum . I think the issue here is the number itself - 210 - does not exist in any literature.

Nobody is disputing that you can't order oddball combinations that aren't allowed on the order forms - we've all seen enough of those around - like the adorementioned 308 tonners when a 253 was all "Joe Public" could order. Likewise a manual VH SL/E and 5.0L VH wagon were not available on the order forms, but several SL/E manuals were produced - not just the special order ones for HDT to make into an ADP, and I've seen a 5L wagon with L31 on the tag (it was an SL/X).

But if Holden stamped 210 on the tag, then that code would have GMH published literature to back it up.

Cheers,

Mick

You went in and ordered a VB Commodore and the dealer put forward a package or you just optioned what you wanted from the option list.
Nothing to say you can't option a package ?

Like VB 308 pack = SL/E L31, M21, N10, U80, why not go the G80 LSD option as well if it's not STD as the 310 pack has G80?

Or a base VB optioned with L31, M21, N10, G80, and with UB6 you get oil, temp, volts but you can't get the tacho but in the SL you can get the U16 with tacho.

I would of gone for a VB SL, L31 5.0L, M21 4SP, N10 twin exh, such comes STD with the 3.08 diff, so option G80 LSD, air con V7K, U16 sports dash with tacho, JM8 rear disk brakes, A31 P/W, Dark red not that dog prick red that a mate had and just went out and got a good stereo and alloy wheels myself, put in a little cam and stage 3 heads on and block off the EGR Ports at the head face with a bit of tin plate that added heat is not needed under the intake manifold at all and got a open air filter, tossed the shocks for quality.

But for resale ? maybe just go the SL/E 308 pack with G80 and do the engine work.

The public couldn't order a 308 in anything below an SL/E for VB, VC & VH. The exception to this was the VH SS. Police cars could, but they weren't available new to the public.
And it wasn't just a case of wave the cash in front of the dealer & they'll build what you like - you had to be very well connected within GMH, and it had to meet a number of levels of approval too. I know of one fairly well known Group C & A racer, who couldn't get something through, despite being sponsored by Holden, and a major dealer.

Re: U16 - the manual 4.2L came with the sports dash, even in the base model VC L. Tach, oil & volts. Looks crap with the silver face on it....

But with regards to the 308 pack - that's what would be on the order paperwork, broadcast, and depending on the plant, the tag too.
Adding the extras from the 310 pack to the car at the dealer, when the car is already ordered and/or built, does not make it a 310....

And this whole 210 thing - I'm with Byron. I think someone is going 1 + 1 = 3 here.
Cheers,

Mick

I went and test drove a yellow QLD Police 5.0L VH auto in 1989 and boy it was that gutless that I did not bother to buy it. maybe that's why they did not sell them to the public.

The early VB brochure looks free to many options, even the brochure of the HZ Premier you could get 5.0L 4speed in sedan and opt a GTS dash with it and dual exhaust.

Those "number packs" on VB to VH Commodore are the standard configurations that are available. Other option packs replace these, like BT1, XW4, A9Y, A9J, V8Q, A9K, BY2, XY8 etc.

Now there might be a "pack" out there that we have not found in paperwork as it might be purely internal, but a pack must be used to order the car. As I said someone has probably looked at a car that does not "fit" and have used the other "number packs" to derive pack 210.

With these packs being the way they were was there actually an L31 option in VB? There was no 253 option in HT to HQ. Now before everyone jumps up about you could get a 253, the 253 was the standard engine on a V8 HT/G except a GTS 350 and Brougham. So if you wanted a 253 in a HT Kingswood sedan your dealer ordered a 80469 which came standard with 253, hence no 253 option was ticked. They did not order a Kingswood sedan and option the V8, that happens in HJ.

There is no 350 option in HT/G yet some were ordered with this engine. There would be some code used internally.

G'day Mick

Whilst at GMH, I got a company hack built for me... VC 8VK35 L wagon
L31 M21 G80 LSD HD Diff N10 dual zorst, power locks rear retracting belts and sports instruments

Got my boss (at the time.. the FB Comptroller) and the Personnel Manager to
sign the staff company car order as usual ..and it got built

It was 'based' on a VC 124 pack (but chuck the 253/M20 and insert 308/M21)
with the HD diff option added in

Basically, if GMH could take a Bill of Material for any pack (which was the basis for the production broadcast sheet)
and do a like-for-like swap, the Dandenong VAP could build it
Club circuit racing...the best fun you can have with your pants on
