We discussed this a few years ago that Holden dropped the ADR 9 off the compliance plate and replaced it with an A after the vehicle description.
I have tried to find the old post with no luck.
Does anyone remember the introduction and end time for this?

That would make sense, as auto has some very different attributes in some combinations.
When did they stop?

Got out my Tag collection out.. VB8VL35 , no 9 and has M after body number, (L14/M20) VH8VK69-XV2, 06/83 ,no 9 and has A after body number , but theses tags are L31 & M21 ? , VK8Vl35-233 , no 9 , and has A after body number (L31/M40) .Mark. Edited by user Saturday, 23 December 2017 6:36:55 AM(UTC)

Those letters after body number on Commodores denotes what plant made them, A for Adelaide(Elizabeth), M for Melbourne(Dandenong), S for Sydney(Pagewood), B for Brisbane(Acacia Ridge).

The only thing i'm not certain of yet Warren is if the HX auto pilots built in the months prior to the end of HJ have an A or a 9. The final HJ's built into HX volume production have ADR9 and no A, I have some of the last few auto HJ's in photos, I think the last Dandenong auto HJ PSN. I think the only pilot HX I have in a manual. Will look more over the next week. |

I have checked all mine and I have an 11/77 with A and a 12/77 without.
So that would make it 7/76 to 11/77 approximately.

Warren Will do dome more investigation, but at least for Holden I think you are right, 10/77 seems to just about pull it up. I don't have huge amounts of auto tag photos but I can confirm that 12/77 from all 4 x main assembly plants don't seem to have the A on auto examples, on Holden and Statesman at least. I think the change occurs in 11/77 as I have cars in 11/77 without it and you have them from 11/77 with it. Will look at Torana tags tomorrow. Just found some 11/77 LX auto tag images with A on them, can't find any 12/77 or later as yet. Will look at my tags later. 12/77 Dandenong Holden don't have the A. I also just found a 10/77 complianced Statesman (Pagewood) without the A and another auto Pagewood 10/77 complianced Premier with an A, they are approx. 1000 PSN's and 2000 chassis numbers apart (Premier is earlier in both). So it looks like Pagewood may have changed in 10/77 and Dandenong in 11/77. I have stuff all Acacia Ridge, other than an 11/77 auto without the A. Elizabeth 10/77 appear to have the A but the 11/77 don't so far. Need more examples! Edited by user Wednesday, 27 December 2017 10:52:33 PM(UTC)

One explanation might be that it happens in 10/77 and 11/77 may have been operator habit.

Could be. I’ll try and think why the change. I do know V8 engines changed significantly right at the start of A9X, which is essentially the changeover from HX to HZ engines. However that is around 5th September 1977 vehicle completion. |
