I do remember something at the time about the rack being different, I thought it may have been the same as a Calais variable ratio, speed sensitive unit.

Just checked the Monaro brochure , lists as just variable ratio same as Berlina ,no mention of Variatronic as in Calais . Mark. |

There are a couple of different racks involved here.
Firstly the Monaro rack has a slightly different ratio to the regular rack, from memory about half turn less from lock to lock.
Also they never fitted Variatronic racks to Monaros, they were exclusive to Calais, Statesman & Caprice, pre-VY/WK.
The next thing is that VZ (including Monaro) have a different housing to VT/VY due to a change in the piping.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Thanks for the information. My main reason for asking is my reconditioned rack in my VY has a split steering boot which was worn out the inner rack end. Can this rack end be replaced easily enough? I haven't had much luck recently with reconditioned parts recently (the rack was replaced two years ago) failing this I will have to buy a new unit.
