I've been searching through old posts reading different defentions of what the 'suede' finish paint actually is.

For black the code is 563-016912 or 6912 does anyone know how to make this stuff these days?
I recently purchased 500ml of the black PPG old stock that should be enough anyway.

On my HK the suede paint on top of the upper dash area and on the innner A-pillars has a definate texture to it, its not just a flat or matte paint.
The texture helps to achieve the zero gloss I guess.
In the old Dulon paint folder the sample chip for suede is definately textured and feels like worn-out 800 grit sand paper.

Heres a closeup photo of my upper dash so you can see the texture.

Heres a few photos from the Dulon folder the texture is obvious.

Interestingly heres a closeup photo of my GTS hubcap which also has a texture to it, I dont know if its the same stuff but its rediculously close to suede.
Thats an argument for another day.

Flocking is a fibre material isnt it?
According to a few forums in the US you can mix your own suede using Delron D844 texture additive or PPG DX1999 texture additive.

Wayne, Suede is another way of saying very low gloss it is used in areas where you don't want sunglare such as the top of the dash.

From the 1965 Dulon Automotive Colour Advisory Service "This finish which has zero gloss level is called DULON "Suede" Non-Fogging Acrylic Laquer. It was supplied ready mixed.

I don't have a formula for 6912 but the new code is 3K006 this may help with finding a formula.

As a reference the other low gloss Blacks are;
Black 4149 is Black Tinter - 450 and Flattening Base - 500
Low Gloss Black 0990 Black Tinter - 400, Flattening Base - 500

Hi Leroy, yeah I know what suede paint is I'm just putting some information out there.
I bought some old stock from the US in the old Duracryl lacquer based suede, seems to be spot on.
Has the texture and has that silvery look about it too.

I've heard you mention 3K006 a few times, havent read any feedback from anyone but it would be interesting to know how accurate it is.
Photos would be good to see if theres any texture in it.
