Shannons sold a Warwick Yellow GTS 327 from Tasmania for $305 or $310 KK
Liioyds Auctions reckon to have sold a couple of HT 350 autos !! for around the $300K mark.

There is some market doubt about the Llioyds and Shannon results being genuine.
The first HT above ex Mike Selby believed to be genuine.
The second listing Verado Green seems way to high $$ to be real but who knows ?

Anybody else got some knowledge re $

I am not sure whats up, but there seems to be more than the usual classics up for sale at a reasonable price of late.Confused

Has the jittery stock market got investors in these classics a tad nervous??Crying

Like myself, there are many out there who buy cars because the have a passion for them. I feel these people outnumber speculative investors by a good percenatage.

This is an extremely popular hobby which is very enjoyable. Not just because of the cars but also because of the opportunities to share the car by showing it off and the opportunity to meet others with a similar interest. I am sure most real collectors feel the same way. All part of owning these cars and like many of you I am in it for the long run. Speculators come and go. I would rather have an HK327 in the garage than the same value in Bitcoin which I cannot feel or see (except on a computer screen).

I too am in it for the pleasure it gives me, not a monetary return...I will say one thing tho as a lot will agree you will very rarely if ever get back the amount we put in on a resto.

My main point was there just seems to be more up for sale of late....as in recent times....and at a softer price,IMHO thats all and took a stab at a reason.

Remember also prices are one thing, and only a small part of the whole. The cars in question also have other things other than what they are that affect their value:

Provenance
History
Condition
Originality
Desirability (as in colour, trim).

Just because a car looks good and it is claimed to be what it is doesn't mean squat! For example people rave about Tuxedo black Sandmans being rare yet it is one of the more common colours.

On values.

A yellow 327 went through Shannons at $155k + buyer premium (usually 8 to 10%). It was a mildly modded car with Hustler mags and some engine enhancements so not factory $155k.

Way back I went to the Shannons Aust International Motor show auction, Nov 6. 2006 and bid on an HK327 which went for $220k plus premium. It was a record for an HK (or any Monaro until then) and there have been maybe 20 only sales above that figure since.

That one was a one owner log book 70k mile car in good but not great condition. I feel what made it so valuable was its known history and mileage. Also it was at the top of that crazy boom. So it took about 8 to 10 years to get to that point again.

About 10 months later I secured the red 327. It was also quite expensive. It was also in far better condition than the yellow car but it only had a history back to Jeff Brown who built it and won the first Monaro nats with it.

Monaros have sat in the 2-300k region for a "best of" car for many years. Interestingly the A9-X hasovertaken Monaro values. I like the A9-X model but, stock standard, it is somewhat behind any standard 327 or 350 manual Monaro in terms of straight line performance. The factory A9-X was was strangled by Australian Design Rule 27-A (pollution gear). So find it surprising they are worth more.

Regarding GTHO values and the Ultra White XYGTHO which was the subject of the "Million Dollar GTHO" story on Channel Nine's "A current Affair" Well Paul still has the car in his Man Cave today as he did not achieve a sale. I believe he is content to still have it sitting next to his Ford Motor Company built Red Pepper GTHO Phase four factory race car.

The only car which came close to the magic million dollar figure was an XYGTHO with a fabulous racing pedigree. The next "known price" sale was an XYGTHO road car which once again went through Shannons way back in the boom and I think it was around the $550k mark. I am aware of several private sales of two Monaros around the $320k back in the noughties and several XYGTHOs heading to 1 million. The Black GTHO being one of them.

I would suggest that A9X values have surpassed the earlier series values for one reason, the age of the people buying them. They grew up watching Brock and Moffat, not Beachy and Geoghan.
Ultimately, Australian hero car values have to be governed by the buyers. The buyers are mostly car enthusiasts. As the enthusiast reaches an age where they start to disappear out of the market, the value will decrease. There are also investors that expect a return, if they start to see the enthusiasts cars being listed in greater numbers, they are going to get out too.
I actually believe the cessation of local production of cars will ultimately kill the value of any Australian hero car. Give it 20 years and no new generations will have any connection to these cars from the past. The cars have such a narrow buying market now!

I wouldn't be surprised either if the bulk of them drop in value over the years. The only cars that will probably easily hold their values will be the factory race cars, in GMH terms: HK GTS327, HT GTS350 manual (and HG manual as it is just a facelift of the same thing), the XU1's, L34 and the four Group A's. Not sure what will eventuate with HK GTS327 and A9X. A9X's are probably primarily so valuable due to being so low in build numbers, and people still think they are a race car so will probably always be prized, not so sure about sedans though - most people would recognise the L34 as being more sought after than the A9X sedan. HK GTS327 is apart from XU1 the highest volume build of them, and like the L34 it was originally intended for Group C not Series Production. However it was the first Holden (but not the first GMH product) to win the big Series Production race, and it totally dominated that 1968 race too.

I don't know where that leaves HQ GTS350 coupe, HQ XW8, auto HT-HG GTS350, HJ 5.0L GTS coupe and 5.0L LX SS. None of them are really premium performance cars (but some of them are very quick in a straight line). All of them are very low in build numbers, we are talking only 100's. Then you have the higher build numbers (higher 100's most into the 1000's) like GTS sedans, HQ SS sedan, SLR5000's, LE. I guess time will tell.

i am lead to believe that a certain tru-blu melbourne based GTHO has just been sold for $850k and a well known syd enthusiasts ex yellow XY has also been sold for around the same figure.

Warren, was that car originally the CV6 from the V2 launch? Is it the same 427 coupe that was displayed at the Sydney Motor Show maybe 12 years ago?

From what I understand, HSV made 2, one from the silver CV6 that was at the Sydney Motor show. Not sure which one was sold and which one was kept.

Sydney motor show was kept, with the carbon fibre Harrop manifold. The one that was sold for the record was the more usual LS style inlet manifold.
