I am replacing the thermostat in my HQ 350 , I removed the housing and it was painted cast iron . Looked up the parts book and 3877660 is correct one and alloy, I got it from my local corvette parts man and he said it should not be painted ? Is it painted or not on a Holden ? Thanks Mark.

It is painted on a HK 327 as far as I am aware but it is a Tonawanda engine, you want McKinnon/St Catharine's. Maybe try and find some original magazines showing a 307 or a HQ 350, hopefully it shows up in B&W.

Be careful of Corvette people too, all their engines are Flint or Flint V8 assembled so what McKinnon or Tonawanda did may not be the same. You are better off asking on a Canadian GM site/forum, however hopefully someone here has seen an untouched HQ 350 20 years ago and can remember.

There are quite a few variations of the 660 water neck, some with part numbers cast into the.base, some with them cast into the neck, but they were shipped bolted to engines and the whole lot painted, bolts and all.
