I have fitted an EFI 5.0l motor in my HZ sedan but still running the original fuel tank. Currently using an external fuel pump. Have also drilled a hole in the sender unit for the return line.
I want to change to something with a surge tank but do not want to another tank with all the additional plumbing to fit in the boot.
I've read on here some old posts from Dr Terri that a commodore tank will fit. (I already have VS tank at home) Can anyone provide more specific details on the fitment of it. Other than the filler neck are there any other mods. How do i get the sender unit to work with the GTS gauge. I believe the resistance values differ.
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

You can use the original HZ straps, just need longer threaded rod at the front as the tank is a little thicker. PM me and i’ll send you a circuit you can make up to drive the HZ fuel gauge with the later sender. |

Yep mate its pretty easy. I did it in my sandman. They have a different tank though, so Im not sure about how you would do it exactly but I used an MRA from a VT/X/T etc commodore which I inserted at the top of the tank. Byron will know better about the sedan tank, but with the ute/van tank I had a mate weld a flat plate in and then the adaptor plate. You can get all the stuff you need from EFI hardware, but I just bought the MRA from a wreckers for about 60 bux, and bought their plates. Very easy done. (As long as youre not the one cutting into the fuel tank Ha) Something like this -- https://www.efihardware....-High-With-Return-System

Thanks for the feedback. The Panel Van/Ute are different and I can see how a VT module would work but the sedan tanks are shallower and don't have much clearance between boot floor and top of tank to accommodate such a unit. Still need to trial fit the VS tank to see exactly how it looks as well as marking where I need to position the filler neck. Hope to do this in the next couple of weeks.
The other query is the vent tubes. The original HZ tank has 3 tubes whereas the VS tank only has 1 plus the overflow tube. I assume the safest is to fit another couple of tubes and fit up the lines from the vapour separator as the current setup on the car.
I'm curious to know how the 3 lines work though. Are they all for venting or is 1 a return of liquid fuel from the separator back into the tank. Could I join all 3 and run to the one tube on the VS tank.
