All
Dropped the RX350 off to get a service today and they gave me a new RX350 Sports Luxury loan car for the day. Smack in the middle of the dash (and right below the big tablet in the centre of the dash - seriously looks like a big iPhone) is a good old fashioned clock! I commented to my Mrs that when GMH released their new super luxury car in 1974 (HJ Caprice) it had a new you-beaut digital odometer style clock where the rest of the pleb range (including Deville) had an analogue style clock, and how things have come full circle. |

It's been like that for a while now.
My WH Statesmans have an analogue clock whereas the Calais & Commodores etc. use the radio screen to display a digital clock.
AU Fairmonts, Fairlanes etc. are the same & I think the Mitsubishi Verada was also.

Even the new Rolls Royce Cullinan has a analogue clock. Things have gone a full circle! Edited by user Friday, 10 August 2018 1:46:25 PM(UTC)

I don't see them as 'luxury' at all - mainly because they so quickly spread to base models. All but base model VB-VH had them standard (and many base models got them as part of a value pack or upgrade). The exception being when a trip computer was fitted to a VH (it took out the clock to replace it with a digital LED one).
VK base & mid had a standard analogue clock in the centre of the cluster (calais didn't - it was part of the trip comp).
By VL, only the base model 6 with auto had an analogue clock - in place of the tacho, whilst all the others had a digital one in the cluster (and a tacho).
So from late '88 to late'93/early '94 is disappeared - returning on the VR LWB "luxury" models, and continuing all the way to the end of WH around 2002.
The Chrysler 300C makes a big "feature" out of it's analogue clock too, but it simply reminds me of the TR Magna from the early 90s that had the big analogue one on the dash between the A/C vents.
To me it looks like manufacturers are getting desperate to fill vacant real estate on the dash....... |
Cheers,

The BF Fairmont Ghia and fairlane has an analogue clock also. Looks a tad out of place though but easy to reset. |
