I know someone with both a NOS 350 HQ radiator and a very good second hand one if your looking for one the NOS he is wanting BIG money for , also have a friend in Melbourne not sure where you are located by he is in Melbourne and very knowledgeable in regards to HQ and especially 350's owns an original coupe and Stato and also is a great source for parts send me a PM if your interested , the guy with the radiators is the son of the late Greg Thackery who was also a guru for HQ 350 stuff and true gentleman but sadly passed away 18 months ago, I am restoring a HQ Sandman and I have had to source alot of original parts as well so have a few contacts

Okay...so I have a crossmember and the reverse switch. No gearbox or bell housing. I have the shifter mechanism, linkage rods and under console boot. I have the clutch linkages. No shift stick or gear knob. I have a replica of the console cut out.

The upsetting bit is the floor hump has been cut out...but I do have a replica fiberglass one that I am going to use as a template to make an exact steel replica.

...The HQ Muncie was 31 spline (fine spline)...apparently there was a 28 spline Muncie used in the USA.

...The original HQ GTS 350 radiator is a cellular core, both manual and automatic...The later rebuilds etc. are a tubular core.

...They were known in the 'States as a "Rockcrusher"...fine spline and wide bellhousing.

...the floor hole was roughly cut out from new. the special LH side Muncie/Hurst hump was screwed down over the rough mess.

I thought the hump was welded to the tunnel, didn't realise it was screwed down.

And I'm guessing nobody does a cellular core anymore and you can't get them?

All Muncies at the time the HQ boxes were built should be the big input and output shaft type. It was an upgrade for from memory the 1970 or 1971 model year.

Rockcrusher is an M22 Muncie and they can be found in both early and late types. HQ box is an M20 Muncie. There is nothing special about HQ Muncie box, but they are instantly indentifiable by certain people.

Does anyone know the correct number push in hurst stick from the USA that is the same length as the Aus one?
I know that they can be bent to the opposite hand and matched to the same bend.

Wondering, was there a later batch of motors from McKinnon plant used in the HQ. With K on the block, say about 1973?

There were lots of different auto 350 engines in HQ, but manuals are pretty much the same as most are 1971 engines.

First photo is the original starter on our 6/71 ls 350 it's build date is July 23 1970 .(delco remy)

Second photo starter fitted,had on going issues with starter motor when hot,starter would not work no solenoid clip nothing.

Installed a temp heat shield cloth around the solenoid only and it appear's to have rectified it starts now when hot.

Next job is to remove starter and instal shield neatly around solenoid.

They haven't been around for a fair while now, probably as far back as the early 80's. Good news is they do last a long time, I buy them when I can find them as I like to use the 5 row cores in iron headed SBC or BBC powered HK-HZ. I used an original core in my HZ overlander as the 3 row wasn't good enough in low range 4x4 crawling, and I have one more left to use in my HK GTS. Both were/are 1971-74 cores from original HQ 350 vehicles.

This one is advertised as an original 350 radiator, the core certainly isn't but the tanks may be original HQ 350 manual, you'd have to look at it as photos aren't that good:

It is possibly a HD 6cyl manual HJ-HZ radiator with the hose connections made bigger, most of these I have found over the years have been auto lower tanks though as they normally come from taxis. It may be a V8 one with the tanks modified too but I don't think it is.

Don't have original Alternator still on your motor do you....or know correct part number?

...always thought the Rockcrusher was 31 spline and a "standard" Muncie was 28.
