Hi, I'm looking for the tooth counts for the Opel 4 speed gearbox GM used in the HR onwards full size and Torana, any ideas? Looking at the CAMS homologation docs for the LC XU1 have been unhelpful.
Cheers Adrian

I reckon you'd go close to counting them in the HK service manual, lots of photos. You can work them out too from the ratios once you get a few gears sorted. They are a Filipino Opel box too, so a few Google searches may throw up an answer. |

Thanks for that, I had all my parts manuals and workshop manuals out last night looking at the illustrations and counting the teeth but was unable to view fully. You saved the day.
Cheers Adrian

Have you found a source for parts in Asia? There will have been a heap of cars in that parts of the world at some stage with those boxes. Whether or not the spares are still around is another thing though. At least the boxes would have been where they belonged though, in 1000kg cars with under 2L engines! |

This bloke has a NOS OPEL Counter Gear for sale, a bit expensive though. One thing that has me puzzled is the part number 708079. The box fitted to the LC Torana's used counter gear part no 708080. https://www.ebay.com.au/...AAOSwIH1andT4:rk:4:pf:0
He also has reco Opels available for exchange or outright buy. Be careful as the Torana had the extension housing with the integral mounting for the shifter. The HK,T,G shifter mounted to the transmission tunnel.

I see a lot in print regarding these 3.42 1st gear opel 4 speeds dating back to the early 60's, perhaps 1962 or 63 and wonder how close GM came to adding them to EH or HD Holdens, another 'what if' I suppose.
