Thats the same Muirs Logo I found earlier and the Hage's seems to have a maple leaf thing going on.

Hi all

Have had the results of the FOI sent through with the original registration application details being as follows.


I, GENERAL MOTORS x HOLDEN'S PTY, LTD

OF PRINCESS HWY DANDENONG


being a person over the age of eighteen hereby apply for registration of the motor car described hereunder which has been acquired from

GENERAL MOTORS x HOLDEN'S PTY, LTD

PRINCESS HWY DANDENONG


the market value of the ute being stated as $3495 at the time of application.

The next record of registration on the vehicle didn't take place until September 1987 with the original plates being carried over on that same date and no identity of the next owner given. The second record of registration form given never stated who the seller was in 1987 so I am assuming that it was Holden's?.

1. Considering that the registration was still maintained with no start date mentioned in 1987 and with only an acquired date stated with the original plates still on the car it would appear that Holden has held the vehicle for approx 15 years?

2. If this is the case and they have been maintaining the registration for 15 years what would its position in life have been after it was knocked back for consideration by Management as a GTS ute, Spare Parts Car?, Smoko delivery vehicle on site?

3. Off the original application to VIC police with GM-H selling the vehicle to GM-H - Is the first selling GM-H the VOPC that is the seller of an internal vehicle with the second buying GM-H being the relevant zone office that originally approved the build of the vehicle?

I gave a fellow a Melbourne motor show programme a few years ago, it had the ewet in it, but I do not remember any other utes, not that I took too much notice. Will see if the guy still has it.

I still reckon it may have been an employee’s vehicle, and the 255 dealer code points to this too. It looks like they kept this one for a fair while, or it may have gone through a few Employees and remained registered to GMH.
I know Leo recalls a “GTS” ute but that doesn’t mean for certain that this was that car. Remember there was a Chateau Mauve 350 auto Kingswood ute completed in May 1972 that was also an internal car and it could easily also be the car Leo remembers. What bothers me a little about Leo’s recollections is the Ewe’t was built in the same month as your ute and the Ewe’t was photographed at GMH and at various shows but Leo doesn’t remember it from the identical timeframe stating he was not here at the time. Not bagging Leo, just it is a long time ago.

One of the big problems with design staff is they lose track of time. By this they work on a design, sign it off and start on the next, two years later their design hits the street, and everyone is going on about the new Holden, which is old to them.

So when all this was going on they would have just finished the LH programme, working on HX/Z and "hotting up" old HQs. So their time line is all over the place.

Leo once contacted me re a "Statesman coupe" that he made and wanted to know all the WB colours. After speaking to him for about 10 minutes I found that they were not WB Statesmans but HJ, obviously he remembered the cars and was working on the WB at the time.

This is the problem with these guys, when you talk to them you have to keep a very open mind as to what they are saying, simply their time lines are all fucked up.

If you do talk to Leo listen very carefully to what he is saying to establish the RIGHT time.

Thx Warren, Much appreciated and I understand the time line issues given what there role was and how busy they were. I have been in touch with another employee who currently is working in the design studio and he has mentioned that he will have a look for me for any records held within to give the ute vehicle ID some more evidence if available.

Still waiting on Mr Pruneau to come back to me with some more info as he stated he would in due course

The door skins are as he states and are still fitted to the vehicle. The indication that he's memory is good on this car for me was the brightwork attached to the rocker covers. there were chrome handmade rocker cover/Sill plates that were fitted to the vehicle when I first received the car and were exactly as he described to which I have never seen fitted to another holden. Have you ever seen another car fitted with anything like that?

In the initial email he's written that the the vehicle was fitted with the 308 as it was, and as Warren mentioned about the time lines getting all fucked up in another email he's mentioned that it may have had a 350 fitted so maybe he's now recalling the other ute built in May fitted with the 350?

Im fucked if I know but the handmade brightwork was the deal sealer for me on his story of the Utility. Im pretty much over speculating any more on the ute and will wait to see what comes up from LP and this other bloke in the design studio. Every thing fitted FWD of the No 2 pillar is as he stated, fitted from the factory so you can take what you will from that

Also have had an email from VIC roads this morning stating that the records from the initial rego application until 1987 were not available so my application to VIC roads was a complete and UTTER WASTE OF FUCKING TIME with the 255 code employee sale car option as mentioned by Balfizar the only record of its history from its first rego application.

So there could have been a number of owners between Holden & '87 if Vicroads have no records.

I guess I'm lucky my car was first registered 4/87 then :) Got a full FOI history from Vicroads. But as warned - not all of them come back with decent info, and it seems they are severely lacking prior to '87, which will drastically affect the H-series guys.

Fortunately I didn't need to worry about the history of the '86 model - I have the full history there, across 3 states, and found out I'd known the original purchaser since 1995, but never put the link together until 2015.
