We've come a long way in a short time. I shudder now to think about what we had as child restraints when I was a kid (and had younger brothers).
A bassinet held in with a couple of straps screwed into a parcel shelf with no anchorage points....
Cheers,

Mick

After my head on in my 2010 Hilux where the curtain airbags probably saved my life (or at least saved me from a head injury) I remember thinking "what if I'd been in a Holden". Until I bought my Cross8 (which the Hilux replaced) I had nearly always had a HQ-WB as a daily driver, I had skipped all the other 80's and 90's stuff but had driven a VSIII and VY SS for a while in between Holdens, but neither of those had curtain airbags. The guy that hit me was in a VZ and ended up in an Ambulance. At one stage I drove my '57 Chevy around a lot and it didn't even have seatbelts! So Mick is right, vehicle safety technology has come a long way and is one of the major reasons why we have less deaths by car today than we did in the early 70's despite there being an awful lot more cars on the road.

Look how deadly the old air bags had become as well.

What happens if your air bags go off on some sort of collision and then comes the big hit after they have deflated ?

I think that the HQ to the WB was the safest Holden to be in a crash as to strength, until the VT type and VE type.
Many a person that I know that rolled a HQ WB crawled out through the back window, Falcons roof was not as strong and Valiant's snapped in half and the bonnet could come through and chop your head off.

I have seen many a car that had rolled that killed all.

VB to VK is a tin can, but RTS of the VB was designed to get you out of trouble, sadly most of the aussie drivers were to stupid to know how to be able to drive and still such ignorance is peddled by our backwards governments. all drivers should do advanced driving so they at least know what to do if the car starts to gets out of control.
My wife just lost the rear end on a corner at 60KM/H on a wet road due to no rain after so long and that can make it greasy as in the first shower and the stability control kicked in and that was the first time she had experienced that.
