Hi all , I have just purchased a very tidy VN Calais ( only a V6) . I am trying to get a new remote for the locking and alarm system . I appears it is an early build with Cobra system . I can get a new remote for the later Mongoose system . Do the 2 modules use the same wiring loom plug ? I can get a Mongoose module out of a VP Calais .This car is a bit strange as it was first regoed in Aussy and brought in NZ in 1992. It is Azure Silver ( light Blue) with Mulberry interior , which according to the parts Microfiche you could not get that combination ? Thanks Mark |

Hi Mark,
The module & wiring is very different on the VP, and not compatible with the VN at all.
Same deal with the later (2 button) VN system vs the early single button Cobra - which was essentially the same unit as the VL Calais in design & wiring.
Only thing I can suggest is looking for aftermarket Cobra remotes that may have the ability to be programmed to the unit, or ditching the whole system and patching in a modern alarm (which is what I've done to upgrade VL Cobra systems).
I had an October '89 Calais with very early climate, and the large 2 button remote (2nd button being boot) so the Cobra system didn't stick around long in VN.
Can't say I've ever seen mulberry interior trim with an exterior that wasn't white, mulberry, or red/brown/gold based. It's even uncommon to see a normal silver exterior with it. It would have taken some effort to get that mis-matched combo through, as Azure is quite blue - the same colour mix was used as Panorama Silver on the VL Walkinshaw. |
Cheers,

Hi Mick , thanks for that , I will just have to use the key to lock and unlock . It seems my September 1989 built Calais is Panorama Silver (2B053) not Azure Silver. Azure Silver 1988 is 20387 , Azure Silver 1989 is 4B014 , Azure Silver Mark 3 1990 is 20840. ( paint details from internet) .Thanks Mark. |

I should have looked at paint codes in the "Black Book" which has Panorama Silver and Azure Silver as the same code . I see now Mick what you were saying about the same colour mix . It must be unusable for the same colour to be called different names? thanks Mark. |

The 4 prefix paint code is for bumpers - so that 4B014 Azure colour would be for a berlina (colour coded bars) as Calais would have silver on the lower section. From memory it wasn't available on the base models. Go by the paint code Holden use - 2B053, as the other numbers are unique to refinishing brands. I have sheets from VNs that say Panorama Silver on them instead of Azure - presumably because it's driven off the combo # of 3080. The VN paint chip chart and other literature list it as Azure.
When Warren was putting together all the codes in the book, we discovered that there's a number of times when a paint formula has been re-used with a different name. A couple that come to mind are Sandalwood & Sandpiper beige, and Firethorn red which was also (I think) called Spanish red. It even happened in later years with sting red & red hot. |
Cheers,

From memory Mick HT Spanish Red was an even older identical colour but with a different code. Possibly due to paint technology changes? |

AFAIK Spanish Red, Firethorn & Nullabor Red all share the same paint code:- 10981 (1F001)

Isn’t it an older colour as well? |
