Hi All

I am rewrapping and cleaning my Air Con wiring loom and I came across a heated up area.
When I cut everything away there is this diode soldered into one of my wires and it is cooked.

Does anyone know why it is there and what diode I will have to get to replace it.

Cheers John

Probably a steering diode, (stops back feeding something else) would have to see the complete diagram.
Normally when 2 sources can power up an item. (e.g. fan switch to fan and Air-co to fan. Diode stops back feed to everything else on the air-co circuit when the fan switch is on)
Also used for annunciator circuits (on/warning lights)
Need a tong ammeter to measure the current passed through the diode to spec it properly,
(what is the voltage on the brown wire driving and how much current is drawn through the diode)

usually has a designation code printed on it. (e.g. 1N4004)

You have to get the anode/cathode orientation correct when replacing the diode (secret electronics technicians business) - google it. circular bar = cathode Usually!!!!!!!!
Dick smith/Jaycar take it in to them , they will identify and sell you a replacement.
