I have a 186S engine in my car. I used a V8 radiator to try and improve the cooling however to fit it had to remove the radiator support that the 6 cyl radiator screwed to so the gap between the fan and the radiator is a little larger than previous. Car runs fine, but temp can swing quite a bit from cool to hot and vice versa when say coming off a freeway run into slower traffic. So looking for a shroud to fit behind the radiator. Thinking of using HK 307/327 model shroud. Has anyone done this or something similar or can advise if it will fit, needs mods or won’t fit at all? Should I go for a different shroud? thanks in advance, Simon.

You could try a SBC style one. Have you used a V8 HK style or a HQ-HZ V8 3 row style? The thicker one from HQ-HZ might bring the shroud back closer.
Or you might have to use a later water pump and pulley off a VH-VK to push the fan closer to the radiator. Maybe a spacer too.
I assume you want to run a viscous fan too?
I’d try a couple of different shrouds and see how they look. Shame you aren’t closer, I could have lent you HQ-HZ V8, HK SBC, HQ SBC and HQ-HZ 6cyl (3 row radiator) to try.
I know on a HQ-HZ with 308 you use a 6cyl one (off a aircon car or taxi) to work with a WB to VS fan (square blade). Which makes me think maybe a HQ-HZ one might work on the HK (V8 one for round blade viscous or 6cyl for square blade), but it will depend open the height the radiator sits at (not sure if the same relative not the engine as HQ-HZ).
