Depending on how complete the cars is, you might be able to evaluate from other signs.
SO its a X2, so check al the wiring for gauges, especially ammeter.
4 speed may have wiring for reverse lights, not sure if Premier came standard with this, but if it did then someone will have need a 4 speed harness.

As far as I am aware there is no package code for a HR X2 4spd as they were not made, at least not for regular production. If there were some they’ll be pretty scarce. Plus you won’t find a package code on a Pagewood HR anyway, only put on bodies out of the Dandenong body plant. If you have your original manuals it may have a 3 digit code next to the model on the ID Certificate, but other than that no go. Dr Terry might have more info for you on how to pick if it was optioned with an X2 engine. BTW the little plate with the screws is the PSN. This is the equivalent of the end of the VIN number on HK onwards. The body tag just tells you it is a Pagewood bodied HR Premier sedan in what colour and trim. There should also be a chassis number in the middle of the firewall starting with HR and ending with SS. Edited by user Friday, 15 November 2019 12:36:46 PM(UTC)

Thanks, can you tell by the tags/ codes if it is an x2? Hr235 is premier? The wiring loom seems original like it has always been there. If the gear box is coded the correct date? Would this also tell us? Is there anyway of telling if it is a 67 model also? I have a hk Can you also tell from other parts of the car being stamped with a date? No. Only on Dandenong bodies have a code for the mechanical package. Remember X2 isn’t a car, it is basically an engine option. You don’t call a HK Kingswood sedan optioned with a 186, 186S or 5litre an L20, L66 or L30. Or call the car by it’s engine option like 186S. And just like HK you cannot tell from the ID tags what engine option it has. There will be people who will tell you when it was made approx. Best bet is HHS. You’ll need to give Ben the ID tag details and the chassis number. Edited by user Friday, 15 November 2019 2:28:54 PM(UTC)

I just had a look at the few HR's I have recorded.
S072071 with body number 6491 was sold new on 21/5/66, meaning it was made at least a week prior to that date. Yours is 8000 PSN's and about 7000 HR's after this one meaning it is most likely a 1966 calendar year build. I don't have any more cars with sales date close on the other side of yours though.

If it was built in mid-1966 as HK1837 has suggested, it's highly unlikely to be a factory 4-sp. The 4-sp wasn't in regular production until May-1967. This was also the time that the 186S replaced the 186X2. There were very few 186X2 with a 4-sp made & those that were made were built in May-1967.
An exception would be a factory prototype, where it was built to trial the 4-sp box. This would make it ultra rare.
As they've said above, none of the numbers will identify the car as having either an X2 or a 4-sp as options.
The best way to ID a 4-sp car are the various fittings which go with it. Things like the correct blank column pieces & the reverse light wiring harness unique to the Opel box. The other unique item on your car (being a Premier) would be the console shift pieces. The underside of the console metalwork in pressed to accept the upper shift boot etc.
Only an inspection of the car by someone with some knowledge can help you ID it.

The engine in the car is a 186s, is it possible that it was a 66 body but realesed in 1967. It has all the x2 running gear. The original plates on the car suggest it was first registered in 1967

The "normal" amount of time a car sits in the factory is only a few days, when it is then sent out to dealerships. The zone office regularly lets the dealers know what is in stock so they can fill customer orders or "guide" a customer towards car already in stock.
In some circumstances though a car could sit around for a time waiting for a particular part, that a supplier may not have been able to supply on the day the car was being made. This might be something like a power steering ump or such. In these cases the car is placed in an area and when the part arrives it is fitted.
They do not deviate from the original order though, so in your case it would not have sat without the gearbox for months, then as the 4 speed was coming on line they fitted the four speed, as there would already be parts on the car that would have to be removed and replaced, and the floor would need to be adjusted, easier to just build a new one then modify an existing one.

How do you know it is a 186S engine? Is the engine number before or after the X2 to 186S breakpoint? It is not unusual for a car to sit a long time before first rego especially prior to compliance plate fitment which had the month/year on it. We have seen June/July 1968 Monaro sold new just before HT release mid 1969. They were complete cars though. The exception might be internal GMH cars used for Engineering or similar that could be put back together up to a year after first build, regoed and sold. Often such cars were used as GMH company cars and tendered out to dealers as used cars sometimes regoed, sometimes not. Edited by user Tuesday, 19 November 2019 5:22:45 AM(UTC)

I don't understand. First the car has a 186X2 & then it has a 186S. Also what is meant by the statement "It has all the x2 running gear" ?
What is the chassis number of the car, the one stamped in the firewall ? We can probably date the car accurately from that.
