Hi All

HK HT HG front cross members display a yellow or white stamp

On the passenger side in front of the engine mount bracket

eg generally 2 yellow letters on HT HG and 2 letters and a 7 digit

part number in white on HKs

CS HG Belmont drum brake front 161 manual

DC HT GTS Monaro disc brake front 186s Manual Adelide car

AC 7434500 HK Base model Monaro disc brake Manual Sydney car

GD HG PREMIER disc brake front 186 Auto Adelaide car

AM HG PREMIER disc brake front 186 Auto Adelaide car

FZ HG GTS Monaro disc brake front 186s Manual Sydney car

Anybody know what they all mean I always assumed that they described the type of engine brake transmission type including accessories fitted like air conditioning steering type power or unassisted
Anybody have the full list of dealer code options used for the build sheets ?

Hi Greg. Can't help with the dealers.
All basic crossmembers are the same for HK, and a different type used for all HT and HG. There are differences with the outriggers, (slotted sides or solid) which I'm sure others have a better handle on than me, but I've seen both types on all three models.

The two letter stamp defines the build of the whole front suspension assembly, including springs, spring insulators (thickness and quantity), and brake type. It doesn't directly define engine or options, in fact some letter combinations are used on several quite different models. There are quite a few combinations.
If you search on the old post "HK crossmember stencil" there is some good information there from Warren on some other variants.
I wasn't aware that they varied from plant to plant, so I'll be interested in Warren's view on that revelation.

Yes it would be interesting to here from Warren
The 2 HG Premier Sedans ex Adelaide are very similar the only difference is one was a March 1971 T-Bar Auto 186 Disc Brake GD stamp
and the other was a August 1970 Column Shift Auto 186 Disc Brake AM stamp
Its also amazing how these stamps / markings have survived all these years Its also stamped on the under side front of the outrigger

If one of the Prems had factory air, or the optional heavy duty springs, the front springs would be different, which could explain the different codes.
Lots of things survive the years. I have the model code for my car which was written on the firewall in texta still there when I stripped the paint.

The codes on the crossmembers are for the complete assembly, which includes brakes insulators and springs. Depending on HD springs, AC, disc, drum etc gives a wide variety of codes.

I have been collecting Production Braodcast codes for 20 years now, but due to he rarity of these sheets have no way completed them.

I have reproduced blank sheets from HK to VN and can almost make up some cars completely, but will probably never be able to do all cars.

The selling dealer codes that appear on these sheets are not fully known, as they do not always allign with the final selling dealer.

The code is production wide, the computer that generated the Production Braodcast sheet was the same for each plant. It would be madness to have different codes for each plant.

Plus if one plant made a crossmmber for another plant there would be even more nightmares.

I thought the FZ code was interesting from most I've seen
Anybody have TM and know what it is from This one was bolted to a rolling shell HG Premier Sedan 6 cylinder
The date code stamped into the outrigger that has the day month year on it looked
to match the compliance plates but there is no way of knowing if it was the factory fitted one

Hi All. A link to this old post was sent to me by a mate in NZ.
As mentioned previously I have a 5/70 HG Van, Chassis HG00013A and Body Number 1A. The front suspension cross member has AM (barely visible) in front of the PS Engine Mount as well as an 'X' Stencil in white under the sump area. The 'X' is clearly visible and in good condition and is bigger than the 'AM' stencil so I masked it off and painted the rest of the suspension parts as the AM was almost gone but easy to make out what it was. I have no way of knowing if this is the original front suspension. It was 161 3 speed manual and drum brakes from the factory. It now has 186 trimatic and disc brakes fitted with a small torana sized booster.
MY HG Kingswood Ute also has AM in front of the PS Engine Mount. I know the history of this Ute and it is definitely the original to the car front suspension. It is completely original and not restored. It is 186 3 speed manual with disc front and big booster.
I have never heard of an 'X' stencil? Anyone else come across one?
Where exactly is the date code or any other code on the outrigger as I haven't found anything yet?

Hi Ian. The date stamp was on the ps towards the front of the outrigger. It comes up as 284OD or 2840D? That is either a zero or an 'O'. Does that mean 28th April?
