Hello, I’m wondering if anybody knows why the following chassis number on the compliance plate, BHZ 10048B is stamped different on the chassis, which is stamped BHZ 10048B AR I haven’t been able to find out what the AR stands for. Some suggestions have been: Acacia Ridge which was where a Holden factory in Brisbane was. Seeing as it’s a Brisbane built car maybe? Australian Recall, was there a manufacturing issue? Accident Repair, if so why stamp the chassis? The other suggestion was Adelaide Replacement. Maybe a replacement part of the chassis?
Thanks for reading my post and I look forward to your replies. Cheers, Richard64

AR would normally only be seen on the end of an Elizabeth (Adelaide) chassis number. The A means Adelaide. The R means repeat. BHZ10048BR would be what I’d expect. I have however never seen the use of R on the rails without it appearing on the ADR plate, but I also don’t have an example of a matching pair of repeat Acacia Ridge HQ to HZ rails and plate. The normal procedure for chassis number or engine number when they stuffed up and used the number twice was to add an R to the end. If they did it twice it would be R1 then R2.
If you send me the tag details and a photo of the chassis number I will see what I can look up. |

This is the car. I noticed the AR with the chassis number too. Has a HHS VPR but the AR is not shown on the report, has it been added after production?

I can’t explain that. I found some Acacia Ridge Repeats and they are normal ie BR suffix. |

I have tried to do a search of the VIN number and nothing comes up. I emailed the WA Transport department to see if they had any reason for AR being stamped at the end of the chassis number and they phoned me back saying that the numbers don’t come up on the national data base. But they also said that if it has been park in a shed for the last twenty years unregistered then there was every chance it wouldn’t be on the national data base. Bit of a mystery! I’d love to know what AR stands for though.
