Does anyone have an idea on where, how many and what sort of clips go around a HK 307/powerglide sump? And how does the battery cable and plug leads run through them? Ive seen so many different ones and none seem to be in any particular order. TIA

As far as sump clips for the 307 in a HK the only one I can remember seeing is a battery cable clip at about the fourth bolt from the front which held the cable in-between the starter and the clip on the water pump. I've looked at the Holden manual and it doesn't show it but I remember seeing in something like a Gregory's one and thinking now I've gotta remember that. It was an actual pic in the manual.

The HK parts catalogue lists 2 starter cable clips (part no. 385378) held by sump blots, but it doesn't give exact locations.

no offence DR Terry but my parts manual says 3853786 for those clips. maybe different issues, mines april 1972. interestingly the HT parts manual lists the same sump clips but the upper clip is located on the block the same as the 253 and 308. Did they move the upper clip for the HT 307? Edited by user Friday, 22 May 2020 9:42:22 PM(UTC)

Did they move the upper clip for the HT 307? Apologies, I just did a copy & paste & it missed the last digit (6). Both my HK & HT parts catalogues list 2 clips for the starter cable held by the sump bolts but the HT book adds part no. SP1795, with no specified quantity or position. My pdf copy of the HK catalogue is of the 1968 version (yellow cover) & the HT one is dated 8/72. Dr Terry |

I dont know if this is the same as your engine. My 327 had four clips in a row. Three different types of clips and I reckon only one of them was installed in Australia. (2nd from the right)

Rig Pigs pic is on the money, the left hand one is located under the coolant drain and is for the plug leeds, next along and the right hand one are for the starter cable and are in the correct position. the black clip is a mistery, not seen it before. The starter cable is also held to the engine in two or three more spots, just as it turns 90 degrees to go upward in front of the fuel pump and another two, each fitted to the upper bolts securing the water pump. I have seen these fitted in different spots perhaps after a valve regrind, decoke or water pump repair. ABI

Mine look slightly different but being an auto it has a big clip as well for the fluid lines. Plus the engine in this came from an early Pagewood HK which means it was put together around September 1967 in Canada. Most 327's are at least 6 months later and from a different country. By the time you get to Canadian 327's they are at least a year later and a totally different model year engine.
I can't add photos here either. |

Mine does not have the right hand clip. It has the other 3 and the are the same clips as in rigpigs photo. Starting from the front of the engine they are under bolts 3,4 & 5
