In HK was G80 available with G90 G91 G93 and G95. I know G92 was. Cheers Bazza.

You could get LSD in all HK rear axles. It was mandatory in all Salisbury. Pretty much mandatory in V8 banjo and also any 6cyl optioned with 3.08, although theoretically later in HK you could get a V8 banjo (or 3.08 6cyl) without LSD.

L30 M21 and G90+G80 would have made for interesting quarter mile times

You’d never be able to build it. The only available rear axles for L30 M21 were G88 (3.36), G89 (3.55) or G94 (3.08). All were standard with LSD. The only lower than 3.55 ratio V8 rear axles were on GTS327 were 12 bolts in 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 and 4.88. These were all posi as well.

You could also get 2.78 behind L30 but only with auto, 3.08 came as banjo or Salisbury behind auto, just depended what model HK, and also when. Anything lower than 3.08 behind L30, M35 was a Salisbury as 3.36 and 3.55 banjo were only the weaker grey iron 6cyl banjo, not the nodular Borg Warner banjo used for 2.78 and 3.08.

L30, M21, G89 and N10 especially in a Belmont ute would have been interesting. Still would have been limited in top end hp though compared to a GTS327 due to the small 2BBL Rochester. On otherwise identical 327’s the same carby gives 210hp versus 250hp with a Quadrajet. Apart from the intake and carby the 307 is identical to the 327 other than the 1/8” bore difference, which alone is 10hp peak in gross hp.

Yes, many years ago I saw one in an old chook shed when I went to buy parts. Probably 1994-5. I think it was a Premier. I didn’t pay much attention to it though as I was only there for coupe parts. I was offered the car for $2000 but to me that bought me 2 or 3 HK coupes.

If you had one now people would walk past a display of monaro's and stop to look at it. What l meant was have you ever seen a full road test on any other HK L30 M21 other than the Prem wagon. I have never been able to find one.

There wouldn’t be one. Road tests were almost always Press Fleet cars, and that is not the sort of car that GMH would provide. It is not even a car GMH would make for sale. IIRC this was the car the magazine ordered? The PTC’s in HK involving M21 would almost all be Retail order cars, other than possibly the odd GTS. Just about all Stock order HK V8 other than GTS327 would be Powerglide. Dealers may have ordered some V8 manual cars though I guess but you’d expect these to be sedans, Monaro, GTS or utes far more than wagons.

I have an article on a base monaro L30 m21 private rally car that they had fitted with the 327 carb and inlet but it doesn't give any performance figures, would be an interested road test

I have the same magazine here somewhere. I'm pretty sure the cars have both been identified. They were both Monaro L30 M21 ordered with N10 IIRC, not stock order cars though. I think they were both fitted with 12 bolt rear axles as well. In proper tune those cars will only be a whisker slower than a GTS327 with the same rear axle ratio, maybe 0.2-0.3s sec over the quarter and maybe 1-2mph slower.

I just had a look through the HK and HT Pilots, Sales Convention cars, Sales Promotion cars and Press Test cars. The only 307 manual cars I can find are 2 x Elizabeth Sales Promotion cars:

HT V8 GTS in 1194-18X with L30, M21 and G88. Only single exhaust though.
HT V8 Premier sedan in metallic black with 13T trim (Turquoise Mist cloth insert trim), with L30, M21 and G88. Single exhaust too. This car was in the HT Sales Brochure, you see it with a timing wheel behind it, I assume the GTS was too as it is the only Verdoro car in the Sales Promotion list.

The Prem would be a nice car to own. Would it have been Warrigal black. Adapt a 307 air cleaner to the 4bbl and bore the 307 to 4'' and you would have a real sleeper.

No, it was a metallic black. I have the paint code for it somewhere.

You can do more than that. Put an internally balanced 3.75” stroke crank in it with Scat shouldered rods and 4” bore and make yourself a 377ci engine. But then you’d be smashing Saginaws and 10 bolts like 308’s eat Aussie 4spds or banjos. You’d have been importing a Muncie and chasing GMH for a 12 bolt.

L30 M21 being not common would make the 80369 L30 M21 G88 XS6 that was up for sale a fair while back a rare beast.

Yes it would. Probably more common than ute, van and wagon in that driveline but due to the cost and the fact you’d have had to order it would make it a low build number. In fact anything 307/308 M21 was rare in HK-HG probably due to cost of the rear axle and the fact it was a Retail order in most cases which is maybe only 10% or less of cars built. Remember unless it was a GTS you automatically had to pay for a Salisbury when selecting L30 or L31 and M21. It was far cheaper to buy a 253 M21 or 307/308 auto and there would probably be suitable cars in GMH stock ready to go.
