Hi Guys. I'm just putting some finishing touches to my latest book. It is as yet untitled, it was to be 70 Years of Holden, but was extended for the final 2 years & 72 years just hasn't got the right 'ring' to it. Anyway enough of that. In each model series I have each variant with is price, along with the various engine & transmission options also listed. I've got most series covered, but I am difficulty finalising both LX & UC Toranas. Strangely Redbook & the like are very inaccurate, so I've found that press releases & other official GM-H literature are the only reliable sources. Is there anyone on the forum who can help out with any of this type of info. By the way the prices need to be RRP @ release. Dr Terry

I think they stopped putting them in motoring mags due to the constant price increases, maybe check newspapers.

Just checked in car mags of the day and they show RRP . I have a large collection of Aussy motoring magazines if prices from them will help you. Thanks Mark. |

Do they show RRP or “as tested”.l? Press test cars were most often optioned with cloth trim, different tyres and other similar stuff. Edited by user Tuesday, 13 October 2020 4:58:59 PM(UTC)

For whatever reason the prices listed in magazines of the day & Redbook etc. vary drastically from reality.
Some include delivery charges etc. Also as HK1837 has said many are prices "as tested"which include many options.
The only reliable info that I've gathered is from official GM-H press releases & dealer price lists.
Once again they have to be at release date for consistency. During the inflationary days of the 1970s, it was common to have 4 or 5 price hikes per year.
A good example is the LH GPak in 1975. The 1st edition (Feb) was $3,088 RRP, the 2nd edition (Nov 75) had an RRP of $5,058 !! These 2 cars had identical equipment levels.

Look up Pinterest and Flickr they have some old prices in adds and such at times I have seen.
I thought that you did well with the price list in your 60 years of Holden covering the LX UC Torana's.
Yep we can see that the G Pak price went wild in them years of inflation were out of control. 4/3/1974 202 SL/R at $3915 and a 2/1975 G Pak $3881 and a 5/11/1975 G Pak at $5058. I think the first batch of G Pak may of been trip to do with fishing for a market and the second batch was a reaping what was sowed with the first more so, because it's more than the inflation rate at the time.
One may have want to look at the inflation rate to get a handle on price rising and company's they have increased every 3 months is the norm business practice.
I also has seen on Uniquecarsandparts and have a look as they have many old brochure adds with the price, some are displayed with tax and some are not. go to the Site map a lot of such info their Terry.
Dr Terry Bebbington's Complete encyclopedia of all Holden models 1948 to the last ? may do.
I have to say your work on the 60 years of Holden was the best by far that I have ever come across.
I have been looking into the Australian Valiant of late and I seen one bloke and his wife has the very first Australian made Valiant and also the Last one ever built. maybe a Valiant book and a Ford book in the same light as the Holden that you have done would be excellent.
Such would deserve the title as, Sir Dr Terry Bebbington in my books.

my recollection (mine are all in storage in the garage) is they state RRP for each model*
or THE HOLDEN STORY? Published by GMH Corporate Relations dept when VB Commodore was released (my copy handed to me as an employee at the time, also in storage)
* but for some strange reason, have no info on Geminis |

Found some LX stuff, unfortunately they are estimates so this indicates GMH did not release the prices tot eh press on the release day of 24/2/76.
Melbourne motor show stuff might be of interest here as it started just after sales date of 4/3/76.

I had a quick look through a few GMH Accelerator mags and found these prices. The wording in most cases is the car "sells for" . . . .
Nov 1975 Sunbird = $4,964 Dec 1978 standard Commodore = $6,513 Dec 1978 SL Commodore $7,813 Dec 1978 SL/E Commodore = $10,513
