A question for our New Zealand buddies.

GMNZ sold the first Vectra (Vectra-A) in NZ from around 1993 to 1997. Then it was replaced with the same Vectra-B (JR series) which we had in Australia.

My question is did GMNZ assign a model series to this car ? I know your second series Camira was uniquely coded JJ, so I thought that they would've used some sort of code for this Vectra.

Can anybody help me with this one.

I have had a look and it seems Vectra A was just referred to as "Opel Vectra" . I did find a bulletin that said MY92 . Handbooks just say Opel Vectra. Vectra A went to Holden branding in August 1994 and Vectra B arrived April 1996 , which changed to Aussy assembled in July 1999. Hope this helps , Mark.

Thanks for that justgm. That's how I figured it.

It just seems strange that this is the only "Holden" to not have a series code. As I said they even invented the JJ code for your Aska / Camira.

The Vectra-B in Australia was called the JR series when it was first released. Then when they went to local assembly (1998) they give it a small refresh & called it the JS series.

Opel/Holden Vectra NZ 1992-1996 is it Vauxhall spec, not Opel?

My understanding is that the Opel Ascona-C & Vauxhall Vectra-A are essentially the same car, however the Opels are LHD & the Vauxhalls are RHD, with a few minor exceptions. So we can assume that all of the NZ & Aust. Vectra are Vauxhall spec.

Also I don't believe that Vauxhall have had their own design office since the late 70s & all Vauxhalls since then have been re-badged Opels. Except the Holden Monaros & VE etc. of course.

I think you are right Terry. The FE Vauxhall was their last in house design. It was built in India into the 1990’s though but as a diesel.

Opel Ascona C = Vauxhall Cavalier MK2 (J-Body)
Opel Vectra A = Vauxhall Cavalier MK3 (2900 Platform)
Opel Vectra B/C = Vauxhall Vectra

As far as I know, Vauxhall had their own trim levels and options, and probably, New Zealand received Opel-badged Vauxhalls trims and styling (but I'm not sure).

Yes, you're right, since late 70's Vauxhalls were the British versions of Opel, Isuzu, Suzuki, HSV, Renault, FIAT and PSA. And even Lotus (VX220).

Yes, you are correct, my error. Opel Ascona-C was the Cavalier Mk2 (Our Camira) & Opel Vectra-A was still badged Cavalier (Mk 3). It was Vectra-B where Opel, Vauxhall & Holden were all Vectras.
